Hey guys, I have put about 2500 CHP's through my new Gamo Whisper and I think I am having some issues with inconsistent shooting due to barrel movement. The barrel seems to move a bit from left to right with the slightest pressure on the end of the barrel. Anything I can do to help or tighten it up?

Sorry, can't help you there.....my Gamo Big Cat is starting to have some barrel sway also....and is starting to lose abit of accuracy. I had taken off the stock to check it out....but the barrel pivot bolt is really tight already......so I didn't want to force it. I have read that that Torx bolt/screw head can strip pretty easily. Live and learn...no more plastic covered barrels in the future purchases. Maybe some other Gamo owners or tuners will chime in later to help out......

How much movement, and are you sure that's what's causing the accuracy problem? Could it be that the scope or mount has moved ? Or the seal is going ????
My Whisper has had about .007 to .008 inch clearance on either side of the barrel pivot point since day one. If I "slightly" push/pull sideways on the barrel it will also move. Some of the movement is actually the barrel bending. As you can see on yours, the barrel is just a thin steel tube inside a plastic covering.
When I first got the gun, I thought that much side clearance would be a problem so I made brass shims and slipped them in to bring the side clearance down to about .001 each side. Didn't make a bit of differance in accuracy.
When I started checking the gun, I found that the Leapers one-piece Acushot scope mount had sheared the 1/8 inch diameter stop pin and oval-ed the stop pin hole in the reciever. I made a 1/4 inch diameter stop pin so that it would be stronger, and have more surface area to bear against. Then I drilled out the reciever to very closly match the size of the stop pin diameter. The scope hasn't moved since.
Shortly after that, the seal gave out and the accuracy was inconsistant again until I replaced it. Now, hundreds of pellets later, with the over-sized stop pin and a new Maccari seal, it's been very consistant !!!!!

Thanks for the help. The barrel movement is not extreme so it may not be the issue. It is just that I will hit the target three or so times in a row and then all of a sudden I will shoot two shots in a row to one side and hit the same exact spot but and inch away from my target. I am looking to get the gun tuned at some point anyway and think it is about time I clean the barrel to so it could be that. Thanks again.

ANY perceptible movement of the barrel, left-right-up-down, at the barrel pivot point definitely affects accuracy. I have the same issue with a Gamo Hunter Elite (same power plant as your Whisper). Even a tiny bump on the forestock and the barrel droops a bit at the breech. It throws a shot 4 inches low at 30 yards. It is a problem that isn't uncommon, unfortunately.

I hate say it but it happens every now and then, a dud.. Unless you can send it back for a new one you may be in a similar boat to me:0 I had a really nice Gamo silver shadow ,tuned , telsa seal and all..and shooting within a perfect +/-15fps range only problem is the barrel would not stay in the same spot everytime if you moved the gun... I tried everything and never could fix it!! I gave up and sent it to big parts bin graveyard in SC:) I wish I could tell you how to fix it, It would be easy if it were just a new crown job! I really hope you can have better luck than I did, Tony.

Forgot to mention....since it's a Whisper, they have "Iron Sights".....remove your scope and shoot to check it it's a scope problem. Are you still using the "Package" Gamo scope or an aftermarket scope? A cheap "Package" scope will go south on you around 2000+ shots......

Just a suggestion, go to Lowe's, Home Depot or some other hardware supplier for some brass shims for the breach block. If you can't find them there, call Daisy and order some that are parts of the Daisy/Powerline/Winchester 1000S. Shimming the breach block may tighten it up and stabilize it. Be sure to add some moly to them before installing.

Ezman604, do you need to remove the barrel pivot bolt/screw to slip on those brass shims? I have read that those Torx screwheads are easy to strip.
I just remembered...I have some C-clips.....maybe I'll try to slip one in at each side to limit the movement of my Big Cat's barrel.

Yep, you need to remove the pivot bolt to install shims. And I would say a C-clip is going to be WAY too thick for this application. I can't see you having that much play. Very thin brass shims would work best.

Thanks.... Yes, it's just a very slight barrel movement.....I also think the C-clips would be too thick. I'll check out the brass shims at Home Depot or wherever.
