: $49 AK-47 .177
: longislandhunter November 18, 2009, 08:00:02 AM
I see sportsmansguide is selling the .177 AK-47 style rifle for $49 bucks   ....  $44 bucks if you're a club member.... combine that with a $10 off coupon and it comes down to $34 bucks   :)

I already have 2 of em (.177 and .22) but I'm thinking of picking one up just as  a project gun for the upcoming cold winter days.....  Anyway, here's the link in case anyone is interested in it.....

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/ak-47-177-cal-pellet-rifle.aspx?a=590046&pn=2

The 2 I already have took nicely to a home tune and they turned into really fun backyard shooters that have taken their share of pests and tree rats at 25 yards and less....

Darn, if they would only ship to Michigan!

Yeah, I run into that problem with cheaperthandirt.com    they won't ship any airguns to anywhere in NY.  I called them up once and spoke to them about it but they just politely replied that their policy on NY was rock solid.  I guess I can't blame businesses for being concerned about liability though, especially in todays world.....

YOU GUY'S ARE BREAKING THE BANK ON ME..

BACK AWAY FROM THE BUTTON..

Paul,,,, the QF-2 tune kit works well with these little shooters, gives em a nice boost  :)

Both my .22 and my .177 are nice shooting guns and extremely accurate.  I've used them to take quite a few starlings in the backyard out to 30 yards as well as some squirrels within 25 yards plus I just find them really fun to shoot.

Jeff,

What kind of anti bear trap safety mechanism is on these?  For some reason I just noticed they don't have the usual restriction on shipping to Michigan for this rifle?  I think oversight and they really won't but I might give it a try.

Archer has "$56.99" listed as their "on sale" price, but notes that they are out of stock.

: Magnum November 19, 2009, 12:53:52 AM
Andy, I ordered a .177 and .22 and sent them both back due to not being comforable with Bear trap/ safety , I really liked the gun and it shot well ...just could not get comfortable is all so it was just personal thing:(.  I ordered the QB-57 instead which has a much better bear safety lock on it quite accurate and I definately feel better when the kids are using it:)  Tony

Did archer say anything about a bear trap on it?
as in the video He says never trust a bear trap?
no mater what kind! & that saved my hand on the tf97 when ti went wacko!!
Steve is working on it now I hope .

I have one of these little "beauty's" in .177.  Fun to shoot.  I put a 2-6X32 Tasco on mine. Very accurate.
No beartrap safety like the QB57.  I just always hold on to the sidelever when loading.

: larspawn November 19, 2009, 11:55:53 AM
Okay.  Thanks I was going to give it  a try to see if they would ship to me but if the ABT isn't even as good as the TF57, I'll pass.  Just looking for another project but actually have enought already.

Thanks

Both of mine shot pretty good right from the box after I cleaned all the Chinese mystery oil off them,,, but they really start to shine after a home tune  :)

But like I said, right from the box they'll shoot very accurate groups and mine seemed to pretty much like any pellet I fed them  :)

I do have a tuning page for the AK saved as one of my favorites,,,, I will find it and post it for ya.  As for the QF-2 kit,,,, I know Archer Airguns sells them,,, as well as some aftermarket parts/accessories for the AK....

Swapping the stock spring with the QF-2 spring will boost up your FPS and give it more "oomph"  :)

GOT MY CLEANING SPRING SEAL KIT FROM SOUTH SUMMIT TODAY .
BUT HAVE MORE CLEANING TO DO & A HONE JOB TOO DO /& STONE THE SPRING ENDS/ & MORE SANDING!!
i'M TRYING SOMETHING GOING TO UP A RUBBER SEAL INSIDE THE LOOSE ONE ON THE PISTON TO TAKE UP THE SPACE?
SO WILL SEE HOW IT HOLDS UP..
& THE NEW SPRING IS ABOUT 2-3" LONGER! SO SHOULD GIVE HER SOME NEEDED POWER,

THE ONE PROBLEM IS THE REAR SIGHT IN RIGHT IN THE WAY OF MY SCOPE MOUNT, NEED HIGH RINGS ! TO CLEAR THE SIGHT??
WHY DON'T I THINK OF THESE THING?
:) JUST A FUN TIME IN TX..

: RE: $49 AK-47 TOOK HER APART!!!
: Rontier December 11, 2009, 04:09:20 PM
Hey guy good to hear from you:)
Ya I'm making some progress ?

have a (?) in the cylinder the seal hits a very rough spot at the very top at the end ?uneven, like they didnot hone it all the way up!
i've used 400 wet sand paper on a wooden dow,
for about an hour or more with no change ?
wore me out!!  will a hone stones do the job?
the ones at Sears has a metal seat holding the stones in ! so they will not go all the way up?

& does the piston go that far ? too the end?

or?? am I wrong??
: RE: $49 AK-47 TOOK HER APART!!!
: Rontier December 11, 2009, 04:39:26 PM
Yep I'm Wrong ! The stones go all the way on the sears break hone tool $24.99.
Will try some Horse trading on Sat"..
See if a break shop will let me use there's??

Great!
Looking forward to you posting the results and some pics.  My AK shoots great but really needs a tune. Sounds like somebody draggin' chains across rocks when I cock her.
I'm sure she needs a good lube...lol. ;)

: RE: $49 AK-47 TOOK HER APART!!!
: Rontier December 12, 2009, 11:59:25 AM
as i still have mine apart ! & looking at what could do that ? . I thinking is the muddy oil along with the
Ritchet still cocking arm I took 400 wet paper too it.
But the spring was a big thing as in longer & took so doing too get all of it in the small chamber !

I don't know what it will shoot now but it's got to be strong??. there's allot of force on that pin, so I put a 1/8 harden pin beside it.
As for today I got it together & back apart 3 times!
keep forgetting the cocking arm slot to line up!!
Well that was my day.
:) still haven fun in TX..
: RE: $49 AK-47 TOOK HER APART!!!
: longislandhunter December 12, 2009, 01:17:29 PM
Ron, I'm really looking forward to hearing  your report on the first test fire session  :)

The QF-2 spring will indeed give it a bit more "ZIP"  :)

Oh BTW......just some advice..... when you're all done with your tune, happy with the results and ready to install your scope make sure you do yourself a favor and glue down the scope rail onto the receiver.  That tiny little screw that secures the rail to the top of the receiver has a tendency to come loose over time from shooting vibration even if you use loc-tite (which you should) and with a scope mounted it's very hard to get a screw driver in there in order to tighten it up again.   The answer is to lay a bead of "Goop" adhesive on the bottom of the rail and then screw the rail down tight onto the receiver.  After you do this some of the "Goop" will squeeze out from under the rail.  Let this harden up a bit and then slice it off cleanly with a small knife blade.  After you do that put the gun aside for at least 24  hours and let the "Goop" cure.  Once you do this your scope rail will never come loose again.

I did this on both of mine and both rails and scopes are still rock solid......

Thanks Jeff,
I just tryed to get one of the pin's !Pined in & going round & round Pin one side & the other side pop's out Dang it!!
it may not look the greatest but I'm going too put some JB weld on the pin's,
there allot of things I learned from this Home Tune job?/ don't over polish the cocking foot, know where you are Drilling, Broke a 1/8th off in the side I was going to Pin extra!.

Harbor FT has Break hones for $4.99?
had to hone out the chamber for about 1 1/2 hour too get all the cut's out.

(?) I could not find silacone lube any where!!
so I used moly 60 in the back of piston in chamber ?
Is this OK ?
Also I used Ultra Blue RTV silicone  too make a gasket inback of the main seal ,That made a tighter fit.
And too top it off-- I got a Bad tooth that comes up or out monday :(. Been putting it off for about 3-4 years!!
the pain is up too a 9 1/2--of 10.. So will see how it goes.

South Summit has the B3's for 39.99
& the under levers for 49.99 .
Both rate at 550fps but you can Zip them up with the Kit they sale I think?

I'm having too extend the metal stock for my long arms!
the AK47 is short!.
