I just bought a new scope and a mount for my Crosman Quest 800. I found the combo of scope and mount on this forum. I forget what thread.
The Leapers 5th Gen 3-9x50 AO Mil-Dot Rifle Scope with R/G Reticle, 1" Tube
Leapers Accushot 1-Pc Mount w/1" Rings, 3/8" Dovetail
I have rarely used a scope before and the mil dot thing is a whole new thing.
Is it too much scope for this gun?
I found some explanations on how to use it at. I have a kind of good idea. But I did not find anything air gun specific. Any ideas?
I just want to shoot squirrels rabbits grackle a few targets tin cans and soda bottles.
I would appreciate any tips or how to use advice.

I prefer a smaller objective and a non illuminated reticule but to each his own. As for the Mil-Dot they are great for multiple aim points. The easiest thing to do is to zero the scope for your main distance then set targets before and after at 5 yard increments and see where a dot under and over hit, to find what distance they are good for. I set mine at 1 dot under at 20 meters and zeroed for about 35 and 7-10. Once set write the distances on a piece of masking tape and stick it to the inside of the lens cover so you can read it when open. Hope this helps.

I have the exact same scope on my Quest 800, - like it!!! ... You've got to go "where you're comfortable" - FOR YOU. - For outside shooting I have it zeroed in at 25 yards, - going for fifty yards, use one of the (lower) dots to line up your shot. Every gun/scope/shooter/pellet weight is a tad different, - so, experiment and enjoy!!! .. (Try the second dot on fifty yards)

Thanks all. This is all helpful stuff.
I am feeling better about my purchase already. It should be here on Tuesday. I need to get some targets set up for the long weekend.
I am sure I will have more questions later. Thanks

I have that same scope on my R9 and I think it's fantastic. I really like it. My mount is the one piece mount from Uniflame Industries, with the 5 mounting screws. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it.

I went out today and bought some fine point pens. So that I can practice drawing some (Mill Dot Maps). If that is the correct term?
North Park or Jaymo could you tell me how many dots there are ?

I got the 40mm version of this scope and rings and, even though it is "True-Strength", my TF89 tore it up. Was shooting all over the place. Went back to open sights, was hitting center at 30yrds.
-
6 dots above center. 6 below center. 6 dots left of center, and 6 dots right of center

Thanks Jaymo @ Jim

It came a day early. Man this thing is huge. I know I am going to like it.To bad I wont be home before dark for a couple of days.

These rings are not tall enough for this sope.

:emoticon:
What a bummer.

I bought a one piece high mount from Uniflame Industries off Ebay. It doesn't leave a lot of room under the scope objective bell, but there's enough room for me to keep the flip up lens caps on it and use them.
-
Jaymo does that leave enough room to cock it with the sun shade on?
-
Not a Leapers, - but just ordered this about 15 minutes ago, some excellent reviews and I want to swap off one of my Power Lines 3-9x32's.

I sent off an order for a taller scope mount and more pellets.
Then sent them an email about returning the other scope mount. They sent a reply. This transaction has been declined.
I found asecond email in the spam folder. They will be glad to give me a refund.
-
Haven't tried installing the sunshade yet, since I think it precludes the use of the flip up lens caps.
-
Looks like the exact same scope as the Leapers 3-9x40.
-
The flip up lense cap slips off the scope and onto the sun shade
-
Whoa very nice indeed, - received it Tuesday and just got back from "sighting-it-in" - LIKE IT!!!
-
I am glad you like it.
I am still waiting on a new set of rings. They should be here tomorrow. The bad part is we are working till dark for the rest of the week.
I took the cheep way out and bought the two-piece mount. Leapers Accushot 1" Rings, High, 9.5-11.5mm Dovetail. Hope it works out. It has 4 screws on each mount. It should hold.
I am still not sure that it will cock with the sunshade on it.
-
Woo hoo. The rings are here. Love the scope. The sunshade is a no go. I need a bigger gun.LOL. :D
I mounted it and went out in the dark 50 yards from the yard light and shot 5 shots at a 1.25x2.5 label on a flowerpot at ten yards. I hit it 4 out of 5 and three were touching. That is with out even trying to zero it.
I know we can whack bunnies under a full moon. I have a couple of skunks hanging about too.
