Hi! I bought a new .177 Gamo Wisper and put in Charlie Da Tunas trigger assembly. My scope is the one that came with the gun and is mounted well. At 40 feet I have alot of flyers. I have been shooting a Slavia 630 for the last 40 years and needed a gun that would reach out farther. Can anyone sugest which type of pellet I should be shooting. I have tried numerous styles and can print groups that can be covered with a dime at that distance. Then the next style pellet strays and incostistant. Have put atleast 1000 round thru the gun and have still not found the best type of pellet that will give me the best accuracy.

Welcome Lyman.
Good with some pellets and stinks with others is not uncommon.
Whatever the pellets are that gave you dime sized groups at 40 yards, I'd say that is pretty darned good.

Try Gamo MATCH pellets, - "dead on" in my Whisper at 35 ft, - and CHP's for longer distances. - BTW, if that's a new gun, make sure to clean the barrel.

Lyman,
I get the bestaccuracy in my AGs using either Crosman Premiere Hollow Points (CPHP) or Gamo Rockets. I get more consistant velocities from the CPHP along withthe best power readings . What is your primary useage for this gun, hunting or target? And what different ammo have you tried? A good bet would be to buy an ammo assortment from Pryamyd Air if you haven't already.
And welcome to GTA Forums. Glad to have you aboard!!!!
Happy Shooting!!!!
Dave

Thanks for the info Paul. I wish the gun would shoot dime size at 40 yards!! It was 40 feet that I was talking about. I have shot so many kinds of pellets that I wasn't sure which ones were the best. I need to get something better than the Crossmans that are avaliable at the local store. Lyman

Got to throw in that wadcutters would be a great recommendation if the primary use of the AG will be for paper punching at 10 meters. Also for AGs of less than 600 fps. Higher power and longer ranges will cause the wadcutter to tumble. Over 600 fps could also cause excessive leading of the barrel. Just MHO.

I believe I also said something about CHP's, ...

I recently picked up a whisper myself. Out of the pellets I had on hand, mine shoots Beeman Field and Target round nose the best. RSW Superdomes were a close second, then JSB Diabolo exacts. Crosman highpoints shot like crap. Beeman CroMags did ok. And don't forget to clean the barrel as mentioned in a previous post! Also, if I'm not mistaken, the scope that comes with the gun is set for 100yd parallax, not a whole lot of good for the pellet gunnin'. For my $45 the Leapers 3-9x32 Golden Image is worth every penny. After Christmas I think I'll chuck the Gamo scope and buy another one.
Try shooting the gun without the scope for awhile! I have better groups with iron sites than I do with the gamo scope. Also, when you mounted the scope did you make sure to clean the rail on the gun and the scope mount, and did you use locktite on the mounting screws?? Scope shift might be part of your problem too.

crosman prem hollows, gamo hunters, jsb express jumbos,

Hey there,
I have the whisper as well. For a time I was troubled by inconsistency until I gave the gun a GOOD cleaning. Also, I dont know about you but Ive noticed Gamo Hunters have been far and away the best pellets for me. The Gamo match and pointed pellets have also worked very well.
One more thing, I put a BSA 2-7/32 AO scope on there and noticed a tremendous difference. I think alot of it has to do with Gamo's scopes; theyre just not that good.

I didn't want to come right out and say it, but yeah, the gamo scope is crap.

Some of us have the gun and the scope because we can't seen critters well enough through iron sites at any distance!
I'm just sayin'! :emoticon:

Hy there,it's more than a year Iìm shooting and hunting with my Shadow Sport and i've got the same problem with the crappy gamo scope and couldn't find any good pellet! Before being pi**ed off completely I ordered another scope(Leupold) and problem solved!!! :D
Now I can hit those d**n crows from 50-70 yards.

My whisper really likes JSB exacts and predators for hunting. But yeah, that gamo scope has go to go...

Thank you all for the help. Went out lastnight and picked a few different types of pellets to test based on the input from the forum. Spent most of the morning working on the problem. Took off the scope and reset it making sure to tighten evenly. Checked the barrel seal ETC. At 40 feet the best perfomer was the CPHP's. Gamo rockets came in second and Gamo raptor stunk and so did the standard CH. My local stores only carry so many type of pellets. I am sure that other types suggested would have worked fine. For now I can pull a heart shot on a squirrel at 100 feet. They do less jumping around that way. Need to keep the sqirrel kissing neighbors happy Thanks again. Lyman

A big welcome to the GTA forum and family lbrooks. As you can see above....lot`s of different suggestions for pellets. From what I`ve read and experienced....almost all airguns have their own favourite pellet.....even if the airgun is the same brand, model and came off the assembly line one behind each other. You`ll have to try different brands/types of pellets to see which one your Whisper likes.
As someone have said....most "Package" scopes are pretty bad.....but sometimes even a bad one can last a long time. I had a "Package" CenterPoint and a Gamo Sporter that lasted over 2000 shots. And then I had a Bushnell Banner (Known to withstand the double recoil of airguns) that went bad after 700 shots. You never know with scopes.....but then, for sure most aftermarket scopes are more clear.
