: Tuneup Big TomCat 1200 (New Guy)
: gatonini December 07, 2009, 12:27:11 AM
Hi Im all new to this sport I have a question if I want to rebuild this gun what specific spring and seal do I need and also what lubes do I need
I already ordered Charlies Trigger. I picked this gun up at Cabelas refurbished for $89.00 its a xmas gift from the wife. Being a retired machinist
this seems like a hobby that should be right up my alley. I want to thank you for all your help and know I'll be back for more help.

This hobby becomes obsession faster than you can imagine. Consider yourself warned. :)

If you just throw that gun away, it will save you a lot of time, money, effort, pleasure, and fun...

Its probably to late, Id bet your already hooked. Ah well, I tried. Welcome to the GTA ^^

Here's a link to an earlier post.  All you need from ARH.

Not meaning to hijack the thread I just have a relevant question.
I am preparing to tun my Big Cat, and gathering all the parts/tools needed for the job, my one question right now (because I know there will probably be more) is should I remove the barrel before I release the spring, I would like to build my compressor without the shoulder for the barrel to slide through.

It's just amazing what a deburr/honing and lube tuning can do to enhance an air rifles performance. I only use a pipe clamp as a spring compressor. Spring Tar do wonder on reducing mechanical noise on the action. The set of lube I bought for $8.00 shipped goes a long way. The kit includes moly 70, clear synthetic grease and spring tar which is suppose to be for 2 tunes but I've done 4 lube tunes out of it and it's not even halfway if used properly. If your seal and spring is good recoil will be smoothen' along with how she shoot.

An Aluminum Bar Clamp is what I want to use like this one and use velcro of some kind or a strap to make sure that it stays in place on the bar.

I use this type of spring compressor.
