Well... My wife wants to get rid of her car and start driving the Jeep again. Why??? I don't know. But I ain't one to argue with her. That also leaves me with just my bike. Well, I can't drop the kids off in the morning with that. I got to talkin it over with a friend of mine at work and he said he'd sell my his '71 Duster for $1500 bucks once my wifes car gets sold off.
Now for $1500 bucks, this is a STEAL! It's got a 250 Slant Six that I rebuilt for him last year, a rebuilt 727 Torqueflite trans and an 8 and 3/4" rear end swap from a '74. Also disc brakes up front, newish paint and interior. I helped on most of the mechanical work and he had the paint and interior done about 6 years ago. The only thing she needs is a new gauge cluster, fuel pump, fuel level sending unit, reseal the steering box and a new steering wheel.
I'm already getting all jittery about it! It's a red and silver beauty that needs a bit of love and polish. Bench seats, lap belts and all. The PERFECT family cruiser to hand down to one of my kids when they get old enough to drive. This is... If Gasoline is still LEGAL by then! hahaha
It's like this one here, except the black stripes are silver:

Looks great! Hope it works out for ya!

DUUUUDE!!!!

I know huh?

Love that slant six! Just about the power of a small V8 and good on gas. Why the heck they ever quit making it is beyond me. Go for it!
-
Just like my dad used to say "Six in a row, makes it go go GO!"
I gotta get my wifes car sold first.... Anyone interested in a fully loaded 05 Infiniti G35 Sedan with 61k on the clock???
Mechanic Owned & Maintained! hehehe

GET IT!!!!...that old 250 slant is one of the greatest engines ever built.....its like the ever-ready bunny...it keeps going...and going...and going. the engine alone is worth $1500. GET IT!!!!

My first car was a Dodge Dart Swinger with the slant six - bulletproof!! Bought it from my grandmother, after my grandpa passed, for a buck... Wish I still had it!
-
Go for it. Living in California, as you do, it should be easy to have anything done with the car that you desire. And as the others have said, the slant 6 is a solid engine.
-
Sweet ride. My grandfather had a Dart and my wife's grandfather had a Valiant, both cars had the 225 Slant Six.
I have heard that the Dart/Valiant and the original VW Beetle were the only cars that could be maintained with nothing more than kitchen utensils and still run forever! :D
If gasoline becomes outlawed, you could always brew your own ethanol! :)

Nice....haven`t seen one in awhile. My friend had a Duster back in the mid-70`s.....definitely not the powerful model....maybe a low-level model.
-
Gal I used to work with was into hot rods and built them with her dad and brothers. Her daily driver was a 1936 Plymouth with a mildly costomed interior (buckets, etc) and powered by a slant six. Wouldn't out run much but sure was a head turner and, more importantly for her, it was reliable.

Oh yeah, I'm definitly on this one! I know what she's got under the hood.
It started life as a 225. But when I rebuilt the motor for the guy, I sent the block & crank to a friend of mine at Tennyson Machine. He bored the block over .095" ... Yup, .095! And she's still got pleny of block web left to go .100" even. He also welded up and reground the crank for a lot more stroke. It's a torque monster below 3300 RPM. After that, it wheezes out. But it's because he wanted to keep the stock carb. Not a problem for me hehehe. That'll be one of the FIRST things that gets changed out. I've got a nice weber 32/36 in my closet that I can rejet and adapt! Manifolds for the slant 6 aren't hard to make either, All I need is the flange. I can fab and weld my own runners for each pair and run 3 Deuces! Synchronising them is gunna be a PITA though
My wife isn't too hot on the idea though... I told her yesterday and her response was " You're aren't going to change the engine in this one too are you?!?!?!?!? You'll see what happens if you do!!! " She also thinks it's a piece of old JUNK, and she hasn't even SEEN it! She's not too hot on Classic cars. ESPECIALLY road boat MOPARs.
