: Grease on hammer???
: crazytimme December 09, 2009, 07:05:24 PM
I read somewhere about puting grease on the hammer to slow it down a bit and act like a HHD, Anyone done this?

Mostly looking to drop power just a bit to quite my disco down a bit, and get more shots per fill.  I plan to order a 2250 spring after the new year, but would like something until then.

Tim, grease on the hammer will definately slow it down, however I would not reccomend it as a "tuning"method. What will happen is as the grease travels in the hammer area, it will change the speed the hammer hits the valve, this will cause inconsistent pellet speed. You are better off using only a light lube on the hammer and tuning the rifle by changing the spring or simply cutting the one you have.

Hope this helps

Thanks, The inconsistant part is what I thought might happen, plus possible buildup between hammer and valve.  Thanks for the reply, just wanted to see if anyone had actually done it.

I took a tip from the boards to slow down my disco. On the end cap where a power adjuster/de-gasser would thread in I counter sank the seat for the spring by a quarter inch and made a power adjuster. With this set up I'm able to go from 2000psi to 1000psi and get 120 shots, dead on shooting 10 meter but 2 inchs low at 25 yards.I don't have a chrony but I'd guess 500 +/- a few fps in .22.

That sounds like a good idea, I can play with different power levels, and bump up the power for longer shots when doing pest control.
