So I'm sure as most of you who have been around for awhile I was plagued by an extremely difficult shooting rifle. It never shot consistent/accurate for me. Well I have discovered the problem...
I decided to see if the barrel needed tighting to the pivot point. So I removed the stock and took the barrel off, everything seemed fine. UNTIL I decided to check the rifling, and what a surprise. I took a few pellets and ran them through the barrel. About 1 inch of resistance and then it fell out... odd I must say. try ed another one and another all the same issue. I've try ed every single pellet I have including some jsb's that have larger head sizes. Push it out and only half of it has rifling and if you looked through the barrel it wasn't even fitting into the lands not to mention the grooves.
All in all I have discovered he cause of my woes, and all along I thought it was me and figured I wasn't cutout for springers. Now I have a dilemma on my hands as what to do. I tuned my rifle. new spring, top hat and guide, also de burred and added a cdt trigger. I wonder if gamo can just send me a new barrel? or maybe pick up a pivot block and barrel from another gun and see if it will work.
End of rant,
Jason
Im just glad my ar2078 will be here this week :) I love these airguns

Too bad! Might want to check with Peterdragin or CDT to see if they have something to replace your bad part. Gamo cust service is unworldly slow, plus you voided your warranty by disassembling your piece( so I've heard). This is why people by more expensive guns, but it's more fun and cheaper to make these shoot just as good, or better. Good luck whatever uyou decide.

Thanks, that was one of hte things I was hoping for. Jsut a decent replacement. And I figured gamo wouldnt take it on a warrenty (been there with computer stuff, you overclock it voided).

You know I was thinking, are all the barrels like this? I ran a round down my old chinese rifle and it was almost the same (could see some light)...

Hay Jason,
I don't know that this is your problem, I believe that the pellet needs the shot of air to inflate the pellet skirt, forcing the pellit skirt out, and into the rifling. Now I do not know as much as the others here, but I sure one of our more experienced members will come to your aid.
Good luck,
Bill

I have quite a few Gamo's and have never come accross that problem.. But maybe I am just lucky.. hehe

Bill, during my short time with air guns, the norm to checking the rifling on the air guns is by pushing a pellet through the barrel...:) You can tell real quick if you have a bad one right away..
I know that on one of the .177 L/W choked barrels that Rich sold me, you could hardley get the pellet through the barrel.. In fact the S1K that I put it in was shooting in the high 800's low 900's fps but after the barrel change I was lucky to get 400 fps.. And when I checked the rifling out by pushing a pellet through the barrel, it left rifling marks on the skirt of the pellet as well...

My S1K is fairly snug all the way thru, FWIW

Thanks guys. I seen after inspecting a few pellets that after it was pushed through it was missing a few grooves of rifling. I am beginning to wonder if this is really the problem. Even before I replaced the spring. The gun was very difficult to get any kind of group out of it.
Anyone know where I can get a piviot block and barrel from say a shadow 1000?
