Ordered a 392 from PA today. Always wanted one since i shot my grandpas when i was younger. Have a few questions. What kind of accuracy can i expect? Also what would be the best option for mounting a scope. Im not worried about it getting in the way of pumping. I ordered the gun with the williams peep sight as well. Hope it makes a nice squirrel gun. What do you guys think?

Benjamin rifles are awesome. I really like my 392. It will put 5 shots under a dime at 30 yds if I do my part. Probably could do better with a better shootist on the trigger. :)
I use the Benjamin-Sheridan mounts with a big NC-Star pistol scope mounted out on the barrel ahead of the rear sight (scout style). Easy to load that way too.
If you like to tinker, there are several mods that can be done to increase power, decrease pump effort and slick up the trigger.
-
Seems the consensus is they are good hunting guns as well. i cant wait until mine arrives. Thanks for the reply. Have you ever tryed he peep sight. If so did it work well for you? Thanks Matt

Iron sights and peep sights are probably your best route with this shooter in its stock form. The Crosman intermounts are ok'ish, but the venturi mounts are alot better if you plan the glass it. They set high, but are alot more stable IMO, tjk
-
I accidently dropped my 392 on its buttplate. The plate broke, but the barrel mounts never moved. I've seen pictures of the Air Venturi mount and it looks very cumbersome. Looks like shooting it would put your cheek very high off the stock. Some folks find the scout mounted scopes hard to use too I guess.
MAC1 can cut dovetail grooves in the receiver and replace the bolt handle with a knob to allow a more traditional scope mount on the Benji.
I thought about the peep sight for mine, but with my eyes I can't use open sights much past 15 yards anyway so why spend the $$$. The original sights work great for me at those close ranges if I use the open sights.

I love them. i actually have 2 of the classic ".20 cal" , a silver with the peepsight on, and a blue with a leapers 2-7x32... great hunting rifles, both. the peep is for backyard duty (25 yds) and it only needs 4/5 pumps. the blue touches prey at 45/50 yards with 7/8 pumps... the silver one gets shot a bit more often.lol

so true my 1971sheridan blue streak is better using iron sites cause its very accurate and 1969 benfranklin 342.22 also iron sites r extremely accurate and its already set up to shoot no windage or elavation buttons on them so its very accurate i dont know if the newr one r the same but i use it with out scopes when shootin out to 20 yards and it hits hard ,the triger on the older ones r very light 1 lb to 1.5 lbs unless mine was set up like that nobody shoots them at all cause its very light on the trigger and if u r not careful u can hurt someone bad ....
-
Thanks for the info guys. I've read alot of reviews and it seems the trigger may not be the best on the newer benjis. From what i've read there are ways to fix this somewhat. Can't wait to get the gun. I only paid 70 dollars for it, cuz i suckered my dad into paying for the rest. It is christmas after all. I guess i also might have to do some filing or grinding on the peep sight to make it shoot lower. Did any of u guys have this issue? If so im sure i can make it work... This gun reminds me alot of my .22 rimfire in appearance. I have a Marlin model 60, and its about the same weight, and the stock is similiar. I can't wait to go squirrel hunting, but i may need to purchase snowshoes....Snowing like crazy here today.
-
absolutely like the 60... you are right. They are wonderful rifles to shoot. I did not have problems with the peepsight, but i did remove the rear original sight to create a clear fiels of view... enjoy it!
-
60's are great guns. Best .22 for squirrels if u ask me. Mine can put many shots in a 1/2 inch circle at 50 yards. The benji im hoping can do this at 25. Any of you guys get these kinds of groups with the 392. I would love .5 inch groups at 25 yards, but i may be a little to optimistic. not sure....

Congrats on your new purchase. I might get one of those in the future. Heard they`re pretty accurate. Wasn`t there a model where it re-use some of it`s air....so the user don`t need to pump it up from empty everytime?
-
It was my first airgun and I like it alot, I was amazed an airgun could be so accurate. I put a Tech Force scope on mine for tree rat shooting in dim light. It's death on them. Mine was more accurate at 6 pumps than the recommended 5 pumps, don't know why. It's lost power after 6 or so years, I need to send it off to get rebuilt and/or tuned. If anyone has a recommendation about where to get that done I'd like to hear it.

Yep, Airguns of Arizona has 'em. Here is a link to their blog: http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/blog/2009/01/steve-from-ncs-wicked-cool-air.html

I have no experience with 'em, but I've read only great stuff about Tim at Mac 1 Airguns. Here is their site: http://www.mac1airgun.com/steriodags.html

Thanks Matt, I'll check out that link.

That guy we can't mention from the yellow forum makes the ACP for AOA. He has come out with an updated version of the. It has a dual power feature that allows you to adjust velocity by how far back you throw the bolt (two positions - high and low power). Low power setting allows several shots without pumping in between. At least that's his claim. Sounds real interesting...
-
got the best of me... got a 392 yesterday to complement my 2 C9s... it is a really quiet rifle, and shoots quite strongly with the fiels crosman .22 pointed pellets... I think we will go into the woods today to test it. I am going to leave this one with it's original sights...

I got mine with the peep sight, never used one except on an old slug gun i use to hunt deer with, but that always worked well for me.. my gun is gonna be here monday, And i plan on doing some accuracy testing and posting the results here. Although there is alot of info on many forums on the 392, I haven't seen many groups posted on this forum. I'm sure someone will have the same questions as me later, as far as the accuracy potential of this rifle goes. I wan't to mount a scop but it seems there isn't really a good way to do it. The air venturi mounts seem to make the scope to high for comfortable shooting, and i have seen some pictures where they break the gun. The b-square mount seems flimsy at best. I guess i'll have to get dovetails cut in the reciever. I just hate shipping to gun off where it could recieve damage being delivered. I forgot there is the scout style mount. any of u guys used this mount with sucess? Thanks for all the info, can't wait to drop some squirrels. I think the benji will be a better squirrel gun than the rs2, which is heavy, and can't be left RTF for long. Although the Rs2 does put them down very well. I hope the benji shoots as good as the rs2. Im hoping for less flyers though. Matt

My 392 is a sweet shooter. I really like the scout mounted scope. Not only does it make pumping easier it also keeps the breach open for easier loading. Downside of a long eye relief scope is the higher the power the smaller the field of view. I use a 2-7 variable power scope usually between 2 to 4 power. 6 or 7 is great for paper target shooting where you don't need a large field of view.
The low mounted scout scope helps keep the compactness of the Benjamin intact. The forward mounted optics makes it easier to keep both eyes open for quicker target acquisition with the fast handling carbine length 392.
The Air Venturi system looks interesting, but I would need to build a new shoulder stock with a high comb to keep my eye in the scope and my cheek on the comb. A compact scope that would keep the area in front of the receiver clear for pumping would be awesome.
Here's a picture of a group I shot awhile back

Great shooting, is your 392 stock? I think the pistol scope looks cool on the benji. Reminds me of an M-14 i saw at a gun shope once. Nice looking gun you got there.
-
Thanks. The rifle has been tinkered with a bit(I've "tinkered" with about all of my airguns!). I did a little trigger polishing, and a little valve work to make it easier to pump. Simple stuff that about any airgun shade tree mechanic can do. Also reshaped the stock some to make it look more like an old rocker safety Sheridan.
Enjoy you new Benjies guys, and may the multi-pump force be with you!

A 397 RIFLE WAS MY FIRST AIR GUN 4 YEARS AGO.... THOSE SHOOT PERFECT ........ ENJOY IT / GERALD

Thanks, I will. My dad got me it as a gift for christmas. It will be here tommorow. Unfortunately, I can't convince him to let me shoot it till christmas day....lol. Very anxious to try it out.
