I've got a problem with one of my guitars that I need help with.
I've got a high fret on a Yamaha Dreadnaught. I know it's a cheap guitar, but it's one of the nicest sounding acoustics that I have.
I tried tapping the fret back into the fingerboard, but it moves the string buzz to the next fret. I chased the frets all the way down the fingerboard and still have the same problem. I don't really want to file them down, but I will if I have to.
I also tried to adjust the truss rod and it either makes it worse, or cures the problem but makes the action REALLY high.
Any suggestions other than getting a better guitar?

Ok, first off I'm no luthier. Actually, I don't even play anymore either. Which fret is it? I wonder if the neck is warped, bowed, or maybe just a bit uneven. Not that I know how to cure those things, but they could be looked into if that proves to be the case.
To be perfectly honest, the first thing that came to my mind was filing the frets down a bit. But I'd wait for someone else's opinion before doing anything I think of lol.

It was the third fret, but only on strings 1,2 and 3. But I think I found the problem... And inadvertantly made it worse! LoL
Well, it seems that I had a loose fret and it wouldn't just simply "Tap" back in. It sprang back up every time I pushed it in and I didn't notice it. But every time I tapped it, I flattened, lengthened and bowed it more and more. Turns out when I started tapping them all in, I actually broke them free, that's why I was getting the problem up and down the neck. Now I've got a few dead notes.
I went to a music supply today and got a few lengths of fret wire and some epoxy. I plan on refretting this guitar little by little during the week. I figure I'll do a little sanding on the nut and the bridge to lower the action a bit too. Hopefully not too low though!

Don't think I have it "All" figured out yet. But gettin there!
After doing a bit of searching, it seems that I'm missing a few tools needed for a refret job. I just thought it was as simple as pulling the old ones, installing the new ones and filling the ends even with the fretboard. Looks like I was WROOOOONG hahaha.
I need to find a radius file and a fret board radius tool. Hopefully I can find them locally.
