: Quick Duck Farm Hunt
: longislandhunter March 27, 2007, 07:40:19 AM
Had nothing to do today so decided to head back to the duck farm and see if I could nail a few more starlings.  Decided to take my favorite rifle with me this time, the .177 R-9 Goldfinger, and give her a break from the gun safe.  Grabbed some CPL's, JSB Exact Express and Tomahawks,,, the rifle shoots all 3 with the same POI, and headed for the farm.

Got to the farm and didn't see a single bird, nothing !!  Sat there for about 20 minutes and finally saw a couple of birds hanging around the group of old, half dead trees that I was parked by yesterday with my truck, so I headed over there and parked my truck just like I had it yesterday.  The starlings that were in the trees were inspecting all the holes and crevices in the trees, and there are lots of em, apparently seeking out nesting sites.  Last year this group of trees had a tremendous number of starlings nesting in it so I guess they're gonna use it again.

There were only a few birds in the trees, and they were hopping around deep inside the maze of branches, so it took a few minutes to get a clear shot.  Finally a starling hopped onto a branch that offered me a clear 25 yard shot.  Put the crosshairs on the birds chest, pulled that wonderful Rekord trigger and instantly heard the CPL slam home with a POP.  Bird dropped like a stone.

In the next hour I had 3 more shots, 2 of em I missed as I tried to place a  pellet in between a jungle of little branches, but the third shot was a clear one and I nailed him solid at 30 yards.  There weren't really many birds at the farm today, not sure why, so I decided to head home and take pictures of my trophies for the GTA Hunting Gate..

Jeff nice shooting.  I always enjoy reading your posts, a little envious I must admit. I have a lot of wildlife around but no starling and only a sparrow once in awhile. hopefully that will change soon(project in the works)
Keep up the good work. Nice rifle too, Love that wood and checkering.
