First off, I would like to say thank you, to Mr. Milek,  for tuning the XS B28 A, that I had him send my son. My son is quite a shot with that gun, and I'm very pleased with the way it has performed for him.

I shot my new Discovery, and learned about the air pressure dropping, and subsequently , the groups hitting lower and lower. If you adjust your scope at this point, you will be WAY HIGH after you pump the Discovery back up. :o)  Ok, smile, laugh, and figure this guy is really new to PCP.

I'm 62, my son is 37, and we had a ball shooting paper targets and water filled soda cans. (Yes we brought the cans home to recycle)

I guarantee, I did not get groups like some folks post on this forum, but both my son & I had a great time together, and after sighting in on the paper targets at 20 yards, we have minute of squirrel head.

I want to thank the guys on the forum who took the time to peak my interest in Crosman Discovery PCP and 2240, CO2 guns. Of course the 2240 has the shoulder stock already, and will get the steel receiver, scope, and longer barrel when I get my delivery from Crosman.

The next step for us, is to try our hand at pest control, and maybe some small game hunting.

Hi Shadow Shot,
Thank you. We both had a lot of fun.
I have been North on I-77 as far as Gander Mountain, where are you from there? We are down from Alaska for part of the winter, spoiling the two grand daughters. Out of six children, this son was the first to move out of Alaska.

Glad ya'll got out to shoot! Now about those groups, what pellets have you tried so far? How's the crown on that $12.00 barrel (generally Crosman barrels are pretty good but you might add one to your parts order) . Got the extra barrel band with the extra screws yet? That REALLY helped ours. I shoot .177 but JSB Exacts group well for me (squirrel heads way past 50 yards). JSB Exact in .22 work well for most of our airguns.  Lot's of fun learning not to adjust elevation before checking psi eh? LOL.

Hi John,
For our first outing, I shot Crosman Discovery pellets. For resting on the hood or roof of the car, I am quite happy with the groups. It was just windy enough to get cold when the sun went behind the clouds, but it was a great day, and I enjoyed spending the time with my son.
I don't think the pellets or gun could be faulted, as far as the groups go, but I liked the higher magnification of the Tasco scope on my son's rifle. At 20 yards, I could see each pellet hole with his ten power scope. With the 4.5 Walther he gave me, I could not see the holes in the black. Eventually I'll figure out what scope I want, then set aside the money for it.
I have the extra barrel band on order, but I have not received my order from Crosman yet.
After my scope adjusting episode with low air pressure, I was much more aware of the need to check it more often . lol.  Yes, it is a steep learning curve for me, but fun none the less. Thank you for the encouragement.

I wouldn't pay attention to the groupings unless that becomes important to you. Even mine, I think, are ridiculous. Put me outside with a pill bottle, and I'll thrill to shooting it to the far side of the yard -- who cares where I hit it!

Shoot, have fun. However you do it!

Thebookdoc,
Thank you for the comment. I think I'll save a few of the white plastic (non shattering) pill bottles, and give that a try. As I said, both of us are shooting minute of squirrel head. Some groups were better than others, a couple of mine with the Discovery were vertical strings with all five pellets touching. I'm having fun with the discovery, and we are looking forward to some pest shooting. (pigeons= squab)
I get to see my son's in Alaska a whole lot more, so I'm really enjoying the time spent here.

Thanks again.

Post Script,
From the list of guns some of you have, I think I'll be staying in trouble with my sweetheart.
