: Need help with a red-dot mount
: straycatkid January 08, 2010, 05:25:58 PM
Hey everyone, got a predicament.

I just received my new red dot Tasco in the mail - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/328878-REG/Tasco_BKRD3022_1x30_Red_Dot_Sight.html

Along with this base - http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_11mm_to_Weaver_Adapter_Adjustable/2401

And hey, what do you know, but I didn't research the base enough and the scope doesn't fit on it. What do I need to mount my new Tasco onto my Hunter 220? Printing up a return label to send the UTG base back, frustrating. I was really looking forward to shooting earlier this afternoon. No dice.

By the way, initial impressions of this particular Tasco red-dot, my first Tasco and my first red-dot, are that it seems very durable and well-made. The body has a rubbery coating on it. The laser red dot has 11 brightness settings, everything works great. The whole piece feels really solid. Inexpensive, but doesn't feel/look cheap at all. I just need help mounting it! Erk.

It would seem the Tasco should mount direct to the Gamo.  Rimfire/.22 and Dovetail = 11mm generally.  You can get these Tascos in Dovetail or Weaver.  Looks like you bought the right one based on the link.  So your Dovetail scope should mount direct to the rifle.  Clean all mating surfaces with alcohol before you mount.  You shoud be good to go.  Am I missing something?

Yup... Andy's right! Just mount it straight to the gun and you should be fine.

I mounted it to the rifle and good part of my view was taken up by the sights. Shouldn't I have a more clear 'sight picture'? I also read that if you mount it this way, it may creep more. So I figured I would need a base that would raise it up a bit. I'll try it again, see how I like it. I do still have one of the oem Gamo scope stops I could add behind the red-dot. What do you guys think about this? Thanks for the replies.

I should add, I have a hooded front sight - so that definitely takes up some space when looking through the Tasco. But I see the rear sight also. Hm.

Any advice on a base to raise the red-dot so I'm not seeing the rifle sights?

Is there a scope rail on your rifle?????? If not, that should do the trick. Cheap too. I think I got one from Gamo a while ago. Good luck. Red dot looks awesome!!!!

Steve, Sorry to hear the RD site won't work on the Tactical rail you ordered. I thought one of the locking clamps on your RD model had a Slide feature ( to move it forward or backwards some) to adapt to the rail. My Cheapo Tasco from Wal-Mart has this feature. Hope you can find a solution, Best wishes, tjk

Wow, never noticed this rail on Gamo's site - Looks like this is perfect for what I need! Mounts to the existing grooves for a little bit of extra height mounting the optics, huh? Sounds like that's exactly what I need. Thanks for the tip. Do you have a picture of your rifle with this rail on it, by the way? And about how long is it? Thanks.

Hey Steve. That's exactly what I was talking about. It is simple to mount. You might have to mess with the plastic piece behind the grooves. If I remember correctly, I had to slide the rail on from the rear of the gun. But this will definitely fix your problem. Good luck.

I used that GAMO scope rail on  my high comb B26-2's and it worked like a charm  :)

If properly installed it will hold like a rock....

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll be ordering the rail as soon as I can. Having some body work done on my car, and purchasing a pair of roof-mount bike racks this week. Hobbies are expensive fun, aren't they..
