it seems that my son Ryan has a fondness for a nice wood stock !
after seeing the handiwork that members like Timmy and Howie produce, Ryan has decided that the tactical black look that dad likes isnt his cup of tea... :emoticon: he feels that a good looking wood stock has more character and charm............
so,...if ya'll remember, it was justa short time ago that my old beat partners put a powder burner togther for ryan. nothing special,...other than it was Ryans 1st powder burner ! an old glenfield/marlin bolt gun, bedliner black with a burris 4x scope..
i thought to myself,....hmmmmmmmmmm........
we stripped the black finish off using aircraft grade paint stripper,....surprisingly; the wood underneath was in pretty good shape, no gouges, scarring or repairs..................plus it had a killer old grain pattern.
sanded it in multiple decending grits,................about 6 coats so far of walnut stain. next step will be tung oil or matte varathane.
we removed the 4x scope and set it aside for another project.added weaver adapters, medium height rings, and a simmons 3x9x50 scope , non AO, but a very nice duplex reticle. the front sight blade was removed and stored away, it makes for a much cleaner look.
QD sling studs were installed for the anticipated bipod.
a trigger shoe is enroute for the 60s era skinny trigger blade ( surprisingly, a 13x/22x shoe fits perfect !! )
the action has already been glass bedded, so that'll be left alone.
its not a show piece, but it is a damned fine looking little bolt gun that Ryan cant wait to shoot !!!!
now, im looking for an old mag fed .22 bolt gun for me as well,...........or i may just pick up a 10/22 to hot-rod !!
**** just for info, the .22 is not loaded !!! these pics were "posed" just to illustrate the finish, changes and how it fits ryan !!!
**** pictures 1 thru 3 are the rifle as it looked when we started the project.............quite a difference with the bedliner stripped off!!!
:D :D :D

I'm shocked they painted over that beautiful wood(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif). The grain is amazingly nice.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif)You did a great job bringing it back to life, Its a new rifle again.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

lol...thanks guys. well, ryan has some great teachers. he has the GTA members here to look up to, his "godfathers " include trent, a seal team sniper, joe, a PD precision marksman and armorer, his late grandad who was marine force recon sniper, as well as me,....his dad,..former army ranger & ex-police chief.!!
