: Military Boots!
: TCups January 15, 2010, 10:06:29 AM
Well, I decided I was tired of tromping around in the woods in boots that are really just hybrid running shoes that don't really give that much support and don't really fit my size 15 narrow feet properly.  Solution?  Bought a pair of Danner Marine Temperate military boots in size 15B.  OooRah!

good choice......danner is the best as far as i'm concerned.....i have the Sharptail Covey Snake GTX  snake boots and they are great.......i even tested them with a ticked-off water mocassin and they really are fang-proof!!!

Wow!  These arrived today.  They fit like a glove.  I am impressed.  So hard to find properly fitting shoes or boots when you are size 15 narrow, but these are great!

Congratulations Tcups,

Tcups, I have huge feet too(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif) 14 4E. I like Military style boots since I was a kid. Last year I ordered Wellco brand jungle boots.

What a difference in quality and fit. I had been buying the really cheap Chinese jungle boot knock-offs from sportsman guide and cheaper than dirt. They all fell apart by 6 months.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif)

From now on, I'll order my boots directly from Wellco, they have the 14EEEE in stock.

Danner, Bates, Altama, and Wellco are the best in making Military boots, in my opinion.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

I am particularly excited about the ankle support these high lace ups provide.  Just the thing for the steep terrain up in the mountains.  And if you think 15's are hard to find, try finding 15's in a narrow or B width!  Apparently I got the only pair they had in stock in that size.  Woo Hoo!

..those cheap jungle boots, did they happen to be these by any chance?

..after playing paintball on the weekend wearing my now muddy running shoes I was going to order a pair of these shortly.

When you say they fell apart in 6 months, was that 6 months of continual use?

Those are it, I wore them almost daily. The sole separated from the heel, also the eyelets where you string the laces would pop off. You really cant beat the price on the Chinese boots , but if you wear them like I wear boots, almost daily, save a few more and spring for the better brands.

kcurrie,
Those look like the old jungle boots from back in the 70's. I bought a pair at the PX when supply kept jerking me around that they couldn't get me a new pair of the wave-tread standard issue boots. Those PX  jungle boots were stronger and lasted alot longer than the issue boots back then.

However, compared to today's  issue boots, they may seem like garbage !  :D

Thanks for the input all!

kcurrie,
If you mean order the jungle boots in your link, at $24.00 a pair I have to wonder about their quality. Hope I didn't mislead you - when I said today's boots are probably better, I was comparing the old military issue boots with what is military issue today.

I had me a pair of the cheap jungle boots and did not like them at all. They were uncomfortable and the sole started to separate. Save your money and buy something a little better, your "dogs" will thank you.
