: Also not to be a Nagger.....
: Bogey January 22, 2010, 05:08:00 AM
Some post and the replies to them  get so long that they need thier own ZIP CODE.    And the resurrected posts that are months old are the most curious.  Are some resurrected  posts  just  ego trips or  attempts to raise post counts.   It can't be that difficult to come up with something fresh to post.

If this post is being a TROLL,   please feel free to delete.

You wouldn't happen to be referring to the B12 thread on the Chinese, would you?  :D That baby curves out of sight and then comes back into view. But it's a thread and not an ad. Happens sometimes. I don't know why old threads get resurrected. Suspect that someone comes across one while searching and then asks another question related to it. Over on the Dianawerk, there were one or two threads that were almost a year or so old. I first thought they were new topics, they were so stale. What's worse, one was a bit contentious and reopened dialogue that was best left buried.

Sometimes when a person starts a thread, some people will flame the individual by replying that the topic has been discussed here many times. So when one has a question , they'll have to go to the old thread so ya' don't disturb the grumpy's for starting a new thread. I've no problem with someone adding something new to an old thread, even if/when the thread is a mile long.  Maybe they found something interesting in the thread and just wanted to comment on it without starting a new thread.

Suggestion - Talk about what is new, etc, and add a link to the original thread. That way, you can see the whole story without the regurgitation.

I have no original ideas.....So, I agree with Red Feather.   Kind of a chicken shat way to be but his point of starting a new post in valid.    If someone did have something  new to post is it not lost amoung the other 700 replies.    Who has time to wade through hoping to find a pony in the darkness?.   A new and seperate post at least appears fresh.   Something started months ago and brought back to life  .... I mean why?

Might want to edit your post. His point was quite valid.

I'm sorry guys,

I guess I'm just an optimist ? I always look at those long, long post as our members involvement in the post, showing their interest and willingness to help, and add their ideas. I always feel good when I see such participation among our members.

Likewise, I always enjoyed our members supporting each other in their posts and sales of airgun andaccessories. It made it seem like friendly comradery amongst our fellow members ?

I guess I should become more like Red when I read through these Forums, looking for problems and things to complain about, instead of seeing comradery and helpfulness among our members ? I guess I'm just getting OLD !!!!

I might change my moniker to OLD BILL or OLD BIG BILL ???

Bill, I agree with you.  I've never minded those long posts or those old posts that "came back to life".  As for someone asking a question that's already been asked, especially a new member, I personally don't mind taking the time to type out the answer if I  know the answer.  I might suggest to them to refer to a past post for more info and I might even list  the link to that post, but I will usually answer the main part of their question prior to suggesting that they go do a search or refer to another thread.  I don't know, maybe it's just me but I just think it's kind of rude to simply answer someones question only with a link to another post.  At least answer with some dialogue and info and then if you want to give them the link that's great.  If I were to make a post asking a question and someone replied simply by giving me a link and telling me to go read the answer there I would kind of feel like the person replying really didn't want to be bothered with my question.   Like I said, it's just how I feel.

Gee, Bill, I don't quite know how to take that. This thread was kind of good natured, up until now. The only "problem" I think I've mentioned is that the Classifieds, regardless of the posting guidelines emphasized there, seems to be turning into The View. Aside from that, I've tried to keep it light. Maybe I've failed, I don't know. You tell me. Oh, wait. You did. (Next time (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif) when you say that.)

I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. If someone comes across a very long and old thread through searching and feel they have something to add, maybe post the gist of the thread and then the new part, adding the link for any who wish to read it, in depth. I wasn't saying to redirect a questioner to another thread, although that is often the case when guys ask questions on other forums, and it isn't viewed as rude, etc.

No Red,

I have been accused of being optimistic in the past, perhaps I'm the one with the rose colored glasses on ?

Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong side of life, I don't know ?? I have always tried to treat people as I would like to be treated, and most often that is how it worked out. I looked for the best in everyone, unless there was none to find !

Perhaps looking for the best, I can't see the faults in front of my nose ???

I guess at my age i need a change of attitude or something ? Maybe life is far worse than I have been seeing it ? The good thing is that I have always been extremely adaptable, and have been able to adapt to any environment required.

Old Bill

"I don't know why old threads get resurrected.  Suspect that someone comes across one while searching and then asks another question related to it. "

I don't think I misinterpreted  what you wrote.

As for  "redirecting" ......  I realize it's done on other forums, it's done here also and I don't have a problem with it as it is an efficient posting tool.  I think you misinterpreted what I said.  All I'm saying is that  I personally never liked seeing just the redirect link as a response, I always felt that at least a short statement of acknowledgment and greeting should preface the link.  That's just my personal feeling on the subject.  If you don't agree with me it's ok  :)   I'm not trying to start an argument, I was just voicing my opinion on a subject.   :)

Kiwi - I was only razzing you since you've got those synthetic stocked Krals (lucky dawg, BTW) and I guess you were referring to the customized wooden stocks. You've never once ruffled me. In fact, I've had nothing but help and pleasant discourse from you. Just wanted to make that clear.
