hey guys its me again. i have a brand new TF89 .22 on the way to my house right now in the fedex truck. I CANT WAIIIIT!!!! im waiting by the front door biting my finger nails and opening the door everytime i hear a truck approaching. anyyyyyywho. my question to you AG ADDICTS :p  is what do you guys recommend it do to the gun as far as cleaning lubing any kind of prep before i go ahead and sight it in(with my new 3-9x32 leapers AO scope and accushot 1piece mount)? also what pellets are working best for you guys in this gun as far as hunting goes. i want something that will be accurate out to about 40-45 yards(assuming im a good shot) but i also want some knock down power. my local bass pro shop carries the preds, cphp, and most of the RWS pellets in stock so thats pretty much my selection right now. THANKS GUYS!!!! please reply i need a good distraction till the fedex guy gets here or i will go crazy.

My advice is to clean the barrel good with patches. Use a good 4 bolt one piece mount and a strong spring rated scope. Outside of that just shoot her until she smooths out some.

I second what Gene said......

As for pellets, mine really likes JSB's.  It also had a real liking for the RWS SHP's which I've always found to be good hunting pellets....

Congrats on the new gun.   Keep us up to date on how she performs.

Mine likes the 14.3 grain JSB Exact Express as well as the 15.1 gr JSB Exacts.

I don't appreciate being called an airgun whorse......junkie or anaddict maybe but not a whorse. LOL

But seriously, this IS a family oriented sport and forum.

My TF89 likes a diet of CPHP and Gamo Rockets. VERY accurate and nail drivers with either. And I didn't charge you for that either. LOL

Happy Shooting!!!!

Dave

haha sorry big guy. didnt mean to offend.

so i finally got it in at around 615pm after waiting for it since 8am. man was i losing my mind. on a better note, this guy is absolutely amazing straight of the box! i cleaned the barrel as recommended, mounted my scope, and began sighting it in at 10yds. i was using RWS super domes and super H-points and managed to get 1/4" 5 shot groups with both shooting off an ironing board with a small pillow on it. i am verrrrrrry pleased with both the rifle, scope, and mount. it also hits extremely hard, the 14.5gr super domes were going deep into the 2x4s i was shooting at. one concern is after every shot i see smoke coming out of the barrel.....what gives?......

and here are some pics of the new TF89 next to the PL1k i had already along with a couple tins of pellets.

Not unusual to see smoke from a new gun. Or even a freshly tuned gun. Should go away after seal seats in good.

Grats on the new gun! I just home lubricated mine as my first "successful" attempt at doing that :)  They are pretty harsh guns out of the  box, but they do smooth out a bit.

Today I was shooting my Titan which is basically the same gun.  Man my arm is sore from cocking that beast! I finished up shooting my Air Hawk it feels like a toy compared to the Titan!

The ONE thing I would tell you that you NEED to do is to tighten and locktite the stock screws. I wondered why the little black covers fell off-the screws PUSHED them off!

Okay there are two things, the second is make sure you clean the scope rails.  The scope stop on them isn't all that great.  A multi-screw mount is HIGHLY suggested as these things are hard on scopes.

thanks man. yeah i got the accushot 1 piece rail with the 3 screws and it seems like it holding up pretty good. although i only have about 150 rounds through it. where can i find instructions on the home lube? i hear they have adjustable triggers, how do i go about adjusting it? and last but not least, my barrel still has smoke coming out of it after every shot. should i be worried?

I would go to the shop and look it up. I just went through it.  The triggers all you have to do is use a screwdriver to mess with it.

Here is the thread and how everyone helped me:

Just FYI it has a REALLY powerful spring.  Don't think you can do it without a compressor.  I broke a cheap C-clamp that was on my compressor.

I've had my .22 TF-89 for nearly 2 years and it's a great gun.  I find mine is very hold-sensitive and doesn't like to be shot off a bench (solid support).  If I keep my hand/fist under the forearm, then it shoots much better.   Any slight difference in the way I shoot it and the groups open up.  After about 5000 shots it broke the main spring.  After a lube-tune and new spring, it's smoother than ever and seems to be a little more powerful and less hold-sensitive.  Before the new spring it was shooting Hobby's at 900+ fps and H-Points at 840fps (summer).  Before the new spring it was shooting the H-Points at 780fps at about 40* temperature.  After the new spring it is shooting at 825fps at 40*.  That should put the summer fps in the high 800's!!!!!!!!

I've tried nearly 25 different types of pellets through it.  It seems to like all the RWS the best by far.  I haven't had good luck with the Crossmans, Gamo's or any other brand.  I personally shoot only the H-Points and have killed numerous birds out to 70 yards and squirrels at 50 yards.  I just bought a tin of Super Points to see how they carry velocity at longer ranges compared to H-Points.

Soon after getting mine, I took apart the trigger and used a Dremel and sanding drum to smooth all surfaces that rub on each other and a file to square all edges that break contact.  I also adjusted all three trigger screws and greased everything well.  These things make my trigger the best out of all the guns I own.

I have the Leapers 4x32 scope and 3-bolt Accushot 1-piece mount on mine.  I bought a better quality scope stop as well that has the two white plastic buttons on each end.  After my recent rebuild, I noticed it had destroyed both white plastic buttons so I flipped it around.  The scope hasn't moved but the recoil is destroying the front of the stop.

As mentioned before, loctite all three stock bolts.  On a recent starling shooting spree a front stock screw had worked loose and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't hitting @#$%.  When I got home I noticed it was very loose.  Blue loctite should solve that.

I hope you enjoy your TF-89 as much as I have.

Doug

I bought some RWS SuperDomes and tried them in my TF 89 and they work GREAT!

The scope stop that comes on them broke almost right off!  Mine has a Gamo scope on it and it has't slipped a bit.

They are a powerful guns!
