I have a problem..... just looked out my window and realized I won't be able to target any nutters on the ground today . The darn snow is so high that there's no way for me to shoot from a concealed position from inside the bilco doors.... all I see is snow :(
I think the nutters are actually working together to construct tunnels in the snow :)

And if you have any strength left, a trail to the nearest tree the nutters use as part of their "branch highway". Here they use the paths I've cleared out to all the feeding areas and compost pile, and from there back to the trees.

I just got done clearing the driveway and walkways with the snow blower and I took your advice..... I cleared a nice wide shooting lane (told the wife it was a path so I could re-stock the feeders) and shooting is now possible :)
Only bad thing is that I'm so pooped out from being out there for 2 hours clearing snow for me and my 2 elderly neighbors that I'm to tired to shoot :(
Maybe I'll give it a go this afternoon after I rest up and recharge...

I know how that goes Jeff! Been lucky with the snow so far this year but I do 2 elderly neighbors driveways too , take a nap and go back to hunting LOL Good luck on the tree rats!

now you have kill zone :D

That's what I do when the snow is high at my shooting spot or backyard.....walk and stomp a path from my shooting position to the target. Of course the snow is definitely not as high as what some of you U.S guys are getting this year!!!

Well it my shooting lane worked :)
After lunch I had to take the wife to a doctors appointment and by the time we returned home it was 4:15 pm, which didn't leave much daylight left. I watched the suet feeders until it was almost dark and didn't see yellow beaks or nutters. Just as I was about to give up took a last look out back and there were 2 yellow beaks on the ground. It was starting to get dark but I had just enough light left to take a shot. I ran downstairs to the shop, grabbed the .177 Disco and gently propped open the bilco door.... they were still there. I put the crosshairs on the largest one, pulled the trigger, the disco went "Pftt" and the yellow beak fell over on it's side and laid still. To my surprise the second bird just kept feeding. I quickly reloaded the disco, took aim and fired. The CPHP slammed home with a "pop" and bird #2 fell over next to his buddy :)
I didn't get to take any pics as the wife was working on her laptop right in front of the large sliding glass door off the rear deck and I would've been busted had I tried to set up a pic. I've explained to her how destructive the yellow beaks are but she just has this thing about me popping critters in the yard.
Anyway, the disco did her job proudly again and I'm lookin forward to hopefully getting some more shooting tomorrow,,,, especially since the wife will be out getting her nails and hair done tomrrow :)

How much snow did you get Jeff? I only got about 7". I 'm at work in Jersey today and they got 14" here!! It's nice to see them get more snow south than us up north for a change :) Last storm I didn't get anything but NYC and Jersey did, hehe.

Harry,,,,, we got hammered out here and with the wind driven drifts it was even worse... We got about 14 inches of snow and like I said the wind drifts made piles even higher. All I can say is thank GOD that my friend talked me into buying that beautiful snow blower sitting in my shed :)

Great shooting Jeff and happy that the see and shoot lane was a success. :) I've had the hunt gear and Disco ready to go for the last several days but we got hit with 9.5inch's and wind's which created some big ol drift's. Things have settled down now and the critters should be out and moving around again, time to get after em here. :) Ed

Go get em buddy :)
I'll be lookin forward to the story and pics with that beautiful disco of yours.....
