: Surprised by Accuracy.
: Bogey February 25, 2010, 05:56:43 AM
I wanted to do some pellet slinging this morning because I enjoy doing so.  Using a Crosman Storm , I shot 20 pellets into a hole that measured .318 inches vertical and .390 on the horizontal.  This is with a 15mph crosswind for the last 4ft.   These measurements are for outside edge to outside edge.  Not CTC.
Pellets used RWS  Supermag field line @ 9.3 grs.    Scope was the 3x9 Centerpoint that came with the rifle.  Barrel length is 13 inch.
I have worked on this AG to improve its performance.  Seals, Springs, etc.    But I believe the single best  improvement that has made the greatest difference for accuracy, is that I removed the plastic washers on the barrel pivot and replaced them with a set I made from brass.
I could have maybe done more but I was freezeing and I figured I was due a flier.  So I stopped.  I was shooting from the back of a plastic yard chair.

To say that I am as Happy as a   Dead Pig in the Sunshine would be an understatement.
Never thought I would  ever shoot anything like this. This is my personal best.

Left out the distance....45ft.    ( measured with a wheel )

Bogey, I know what it is like to have that moment. I got a new gun a few months ago that was so accurate after i sighted it in that I thought it was jamming because the pellets were all going in the same hole. I didn't do a 20 shot group, so I can't compare...

But how far were you shooting from?

Good shooting mike. Putting the projectiles through the same hole is the quest of all serious shooters. It is a fun, but often frustrating task. Keep up the good work. snookman

Wow....I didn`t think Crosmans can be so accurate...of course you did a fine job tuning and experimenting with it.  Can you post a pic of your air rifle.....with such a short barrel....it just seems weird in my mental image of it.

Stanley,   the short barrel does not look so strange in person as I have a brake on the barrel .  If not for the brake it would most likely be hard to cock.  I am going to try to duplicate the shooting results again tomorrow.   You cannot believe how surprised I was to turn in such a close group.   For awhile I actually thought I was missing the paper.   Stopped and checked several times to make sure I was on the paper.  The stars must have been aligned just right.

And I didn't think Crosmans could be this accurate either.

Bogey, I have a Crosman NPSS that came out of the box without the plastic breech shims.  I found perfect-sized replacement brass shims from Lowes (on a gunsmith's recommendation) of all places.  The 5/16" brass washers I got fit perfectly into the recesses on each side of the breech and it fit snugly between the forks - so well, in fact, that I was able to get 1-1/2" groups at 65 yards with CPHP pellets.  But getting back to a question asked by thebookdoc, how far were you shooting?

Well Gentlemen,  This morning I tried to duplicate the group from yesterday.   I have got close but as they say, " No Cigar".   Just when I thought I was on the track,  one would print about the width of a pellet from the main grouping.   I could 4, 5, even 6 in pretty much the same hole then one would take a walk.  Shot 12 bullseye circles and for now I am stopping.   I  Swear I have eye strain now.   Conditions outside are pretty close to yesterday so I believe it is just me.  Using the same RWS pellet and it still is the most accurate.  The 9.3 grain pellet seems to resist the wind better than the lighter pellets.

Hard to do exactly the same thing twice.
