: Country Rat Down(maybe)

Decided to do a little night hunting. Well i've been seeing a opossum around my house lately and i baited him tonight with some tuna. Saw him at 7:30 tonight. Went out on the deck and he froze, got him in the sights and crack went the storm xt and hit him in the neck. He sort of wobbled off and into the thickets he went. Decided to chase him. Got one more clear shot at his head, hit him square and he really stumbled and walked prolly 1 to 2 feet and didnt see him anymore. I am not chaseing him in the thickets right now with out anybody else with me. All i heard was a strong death moan and thats all she wrote. I will have to see tomorrow if i did the trick. I will keep u guys updated and will add pics if there are any :0 . here is my night hunting set up(would have used my quest 800x but spring broke, oh well).

Shows you how tough those buggers are!  I didn't believe it until I saw it myself.  Post some pictures. What is that gun?

He may be dead in the hole, Good luck retrieving him. from past expierences, i think he may be a little angry if he does come out.

Yeah your right......VERY ANGRY. Anything that gets wounded will be angry. I have been attacked by squirrels, woodchucks.....and possums. Better bring a weapon for your safety. And just a tip...Next time, aim between the eye and ear. Or between the eyes. Neck shots don't cut it, not on a tough animal like a coon or possum. I never have shot a possum with an airgun, but i have shot quite a few with a .22 lr. Neck shots don't usually bring them down in one shot with a 22 unless you hit the spine. You really need to aim for the head in the future. Not ragging on you, just making suggestions. You have to be perfect with your shot placement with an airgun. Especially because  your using a fairly low powered gun. The storm is a .177 right?

I totally concur!  I've hit a possum that I thought was for certain down for the count, only to see it get up and walk away.  That was with a headshot from a magnum springer.

After my experiences I don't think I would ever take a shot at one over 15 yards.  Believe me I've been the most frustrated possum hunter there is!

Your not gonna lose any more possums or coons. You found the sweetspot. Nothing is safe now. You know even Harry takes headshots only on possums and coons. And he has a .25 condor that has massive amounts of fpe for an airgun. Harry, let me know when your sick of your condor's power and accuracy. :p  I won't hold my breath.

The right shooter, ammo and shot placement, the rest is in the hunters hand's. Ed

You ever shoot a possum with a .177 gun?

Yup several years ago I took a Bandit with my b26 .177 and Predator pellet. I was actually Squirrel hunting during the day and when appeared on the trail coming in my direction. I treed him and he took one shot to the fusebox and fell about thirty feet from his limb and was dead when he hit the dirt. :) On further inspection he was a very sick Bandit, rabid and running around in the middle of the day.  Here's a pic of another Bandit that I harvested from my yard with my B26-2 .177 he was raiding the bird feeders one night. The 26 and a Predator done him in too. :) Ed
