: Remember Your HUNTING LICENCE !!!
: Big_Bill April 10, 2007, 10:41:35 AM

Fellow Hunters and Shooters taking game animals.

Remember to have an up-to-date HUNTING LICENCE when taking game.

It is allways required !

Your HUNTING LICENCE BOOKLET has information as to the legal seasons and legal game in your State, also the limits of game that can be taken.

This is REQUIRED when taking almost every animal.

I don't think this has been mentioned, because most of us have just picked up our Hunting and Fishing licences each year by habbit.

Thanks,

I love it Bill.. I honestly think you are a fantastic asset to the GTA as well as friend and family.. Sometime I wonder about having a license is necessary where I shoot. It is private property where I have permission to shoot.. Maybe I do and should check into the state laws..

In most states if you are hunting indigenous wild game you need a hunting license no matter where you are shooting/hunting, even private land.  Most state laws designate that all indigenous wildlife are the property of the state no matter where the animals reside.

If you are hunting non indigenous species than they are usually not covered under existing game laws and most times hunting those animals is not governed by any seasons or bag limits,,, but you may still be required to have a license on you while hunting them.  The best course of action is to do just what Gene said,,,, check with your states game authorities for up to date licensing information.

Here in Wisconsin, the DNR says you can hunt nuisance critter on your own property with out a licence.
Nusince  critters only covers about 6 different animals.

If you are hunting nuisance critters on somebody eles' property a hunting licence is then required, time of year
does not matter.

If you are hunting on public or private land then a licence is required.  Also you may only hunt during the proper
hunting seasons for said critters.

And as a side note, make sure that if you are shooting on your own property that a pellet / airgun does not fall
under city ordinance of discharging a firearm.  I got nailed on that once and was let off with a warning.  Now I
do not go out into the yard with my guns to shoot, I just open a window to take my shoots.

Here in Texas, it's illegal to take any game at any time with an Air rifle.
Youre only allowed pest rated critters and do not need a license, but need to
stick to seasons. I found though that it's safer to be legal, just in case.
it's way better not to have to argue with the officers hehe!

Cannot answer for other states but in California if it breathes before you shoot it, then you better have a license after you shoot and it stops breathing. My gripe is not the license  requirement but that the game laws are so confusing that I cannot understand them. I pity the poor hunter who just guesses at what all the words mean in the little booklets and then gets hammered by the game warden. Also, the Federal and State laws are not conformed and so you have that problem, especially when it comes to migratory game birds. Where I live we also have special county and city ordinances/laws and so there you have four layers of confusion. I want to do the right thing but cannot figure out what the right thing is!!!!
