I always thought when someone said Red Squirrel, they were talking about a Fox Squirrel. :o
I know that there is a Gray Squirrel, a Tree Squirrel and a few other in the Rockies.
Only squirrels down here in S.Texas are fox and ground squirrels.

Glenn,
Our Red Squirrels here are about 2/3 the size of a Gray, but they make up for it in bad attitude. They are rather aggresive for their size and often try to drive Grays out of an area.
Because of the markings, some folks mistakenly think they are very large Chipmunks.
When it's hard to see the Red's coloring, they get mistaken for young Grays. They are about the size that young Grays are when they first start to venture out on their own.
What's most distinctive in any light conditions is the way Reds move. Much more 'hyper' and seemingly faster than the Grays normally move. If you see a small Squirrel that acts like it's had 6 cups of coffee ..... most likely it's a Red. :D
And if you do a web search, technically they are known as "American Red Squirrels" not to be confused with the "Red Squirrels" in Europe.
Sure are a challange to hunt.
Paul.

Thanks for Red Squirrel 101, Paul
I'll keep my eyes open for any squirrels acting like it's hype-up on java. :emoticon:
-
Glenn,
:D
If you want to hunt them,.... it helps if ya drink alot of coffee,... then your gun is shaking and more likely to match up with the Red's movements !! :D
Paul.

I don’t java to give me the shakes. Old age does a better job. Now where my front sight? :D

I'm still waiting to see my first red devil. I hope I can come on to a range for them as they are open season all year long here in NY.
