Well guys its been really slow for me and work has been kickin my but. Luckily the game cam gave me some new found spirit.. Here we have one of those texas and mexican Chupacabra dawgs runnin loose on the ranch. I wanna shoot it.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif) Its a cross between a coyote and another animal they can't figure out yet at the USC.
It showed up on the game cam 3 or 4 times now and I have become stricken with the urge ta shoot it or trap it for research. wierd hu...
I think its drinkin the baby pigs blood.. they don't eat meat they just drink the blood and leave the carcase ta rot...(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks Jeff, Its been crazy with this new job... I killl those porkers all the time.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)
I'm after the legend now...
-
On one of the cable channels just recently I watched a show called "Monster Quest" where a group of professional researches from different fields of study investigated the whole "chupacabra" legend. At one point in the show they interviewed a woman had found a dead dog like creature on her cattle ranch and the thing looked just like the creature in your pics. If you do shoot it maybe you should contact someone who might be interested in it..... we could see you on t.v. :)
Jeff

We are discussing trapping it for research.. I think the $$$$$ would be really big since no one has a live one..
I will be in the lower Laguna Madre doing lip surgery on trophy trout this weekend so It will have to wait till next weekend...(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)

Great to see you bro, must be keeping you busy too. Whack some pork brother, there's plenty of them to go around. Ed

Fishing? Oh, man... now I am jealous. The lakes still have ice on them here!

Amazing.
You know you can really get famous if you bag it.
Science needs you man,go pull back the bold and get out there.
If you where able to smap though pics, you would no doubt be able to het a clean shot.
Im rooting for you.
-
Coyote with extreme mange. Canine family for sure.
-
Great stuff Randall, sure glad you are still getting around buddy. I had heard you got over taken by rats and drank all your beer..:) Anyway great pics and I for one really miss seeing you here every day..:) Give Mrs. Quest our best...:)
-
JQ,
Good luck with catching that nasty lookin' thing!!!!
Anyway, I count at least 15 good BBQ's in that last picture. I'm surprised you don't have alot of guys with a gun in one hand and a bottle BBQ suace in the other, bangin' on your door volunteering to help ya. :D
Paul.
-
Ya like the last post it looks like a Yote with mange.. Hopefully it will show it self on camera again.
-
I can't tell what that thing is. It looks like a mangy dog but it is hard to say. Get it, trap it, shoot it something, "Enquiring Minds" want to know!
We want you on Discovery Channel! Heck call them and show this to them! They'll probably come out and help you!
On another note:
Can we come and hunt piggies please? :) I've been pondering booking a hog hunt in TN but the $650 price tag is a little much and I don't have a hog killing gun yet so that magnifies it even more!
My brother Larry has won several BBQ competitions across the southeast! His partner has opened a restaurant. I'd be glad to bring him along piggie shooting and then "The Champion" as we all call him will cook them up for us! :D
-
Here's a little link to it runnin down the road in front of the sheriffs car.. Its a wierd blood suckin dawg..
It leaves its prey where it killed it... I'm gunna trap it. Then sell it to the highest bidder...
I think there's 2 of them cuz 1 looks smaller than the other...

-
Anyone have an issue wih the link Randall put up? I got attacked with three Tojan virus. Lucky my anti virus caught them..
As far as the blood sucking dog goes I think this is interesting but must be a joke..:) Or myth or uban tail...
-
I just watched it and had no tojan alerts.
How watch my computer crash. :0
-
its about time you've come on here randall LOl, that sure looks freaky! possibly a fox with a bad case of mange?
-
I am with you Jake, Randall is pulling all our legs.... hehe
-
lol i know hehe :p
-
Hmmm....since we wonder what Groundhog tastes like....what about Chupacabra? :D
-
Chupa-what? I'll hunt it but I will be danged if I'd eat that mangy looking creature.
-
WOW......Hey ! Exactly what longisland said...I saw that episode of monsterquest about the chupabra, and yeah it looked just like that!
You should sell those pictures! :)
-
Hey guys, Randall is pulling your legs...:) If you believe all that stuff then come by my house this Friday after dark and I willl show you how to catch a snipe...:)
-
Snipe Hunting! Oh boy, I haven’t been snipe hunting since my Navy days. No, I didn’t fall the snipe hunt, but I did fall for the seabat trick. 8)
I’ll bring the bag and flashlight Gene. Lets say about dark thirty. :)
-
Would be nice to see it come back but next time in your sights. It was a great catch on your cam.
-
Looks like the black version of that mutt in the Taco Bell commercials.
-
I'm not jokeing about this dawg... Its a blood sucking chupa cabra.. I saw it on Monsterquest also.. thats how I knew what it was.. Gene is just a NON believer... They have been spotted all over texas for the last few years...
-
Keep the feeder going and you may bag this bad boy.
-
Nice pics of the elusive critter Randall! Good to see you back here too.
I watched MonsterQuest too and they concluded it was usually a dog or coyote that had the disease where they loose all their hair/fur. It might have been Mange but I 'm not sure what they called it. They eventually die from this disease. People in Mexico started naming it Chupacabra because they are not used to seeing an animal with this disease in the wild.
I hope you trap it and turn it over to the Authorities. Hopefully you 'll make some $ from the deal :)
-
I Believe Randall. I believe you have been eating some of that cactus that grows there.. hehehe I am giving you a hard time because I never got any of that home caned Okra...:(
-
My best guess would be that its a cross between this critter and a coyote... This is a rare mexican dawg that was owned by the rich.. Somehow it and a yote bread and created this wierd blood suckin critter.. We will see when i ground check it or trap it..

-
Make sure when you catch the thing, take lots of pictures up close. Especialy the teeth and mouth. Have Mrs Quest hold his mouth open while you take a picture...:)
-
Naa I'm just gunna poke it with a stick whilst its in its cage and get it riled up.. Then I'll get some video of it growlin and stufff(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif). Should make a great youtube vid and bring in more money from the researchers....(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)
-
Mrs. Quest is not allowed anywhere near this dawg... within a week it will be a dam lap dawg if she gets ahold of it...(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)

I see the similarity to the Xoloi...li dog :)
The "Chupacabra's" head and ears in the first pic look a lot like a red fox that comes around my backyard every night now. The position of the Chpacabra's head in pic #1 is very similar to what I 'm used to seeing with the fox because she has her head down eating cat food most of the time. Even the angle of the "Chupy's" head is almost identical to what I 'm used to with the red fox. It's a spit image of "my fox's" head, but then again a lot of dogs & yotes match that shape.
How big or tall do you make it out to be in these pics? It's not close to the feeder so I don't have much to compare it with. From looking at the pigs under the feeder, the Chupy looks fairly tall as it is farther back, so I 'd assume bigger than a red fox, more like coyote or medium-sized dog but it's hard to tell.
Can you put some dog food or meat closer to the game Cam, say 6-8ft away, and then put a log or an item next to the food at least a foot tall, or 2ft tall if you can which is closer to a Coyote's height, so we can get a pretty good idea of its size? Naturally you will get skunks and other critters coming for the bait, so this might take a few tries. But getting this animal's dimensions right is a good start.
I just remembered you said it drinks blood only and I saw the bled-dry farm animals and chickens on Monsterquest, but it may come to investigate the meat/bait.

That's ok. You will get many offers from TV stations & Media companies for an interview with the only people to domesticate a Cupachabra!! I say let her do her thing but be ware of diseases :) Those companies (and magazines) pay pretty well for interviews. Just don't sign anything that says they are the exclusive owner of your story.
I will give you some advice for free buddy. Pay attention and put the beer down. You will thank me later :)
Do NOT turn in the Chupacabra right away after capturing it. Call the Media giants like NBC, CBS, ABC, etc. and tell them what you have and how much $ are they offering to be allowed on your property and film it and ask you questions. Shop around and see who offers the most. Tell them they will be the 1st ones to film a live Chupacabra, but don't agree that they will be the only ones afterwards. That way you get some more $ from the other stations for subsequent interviews. Send them these same pics you sent us or other better ones if you have them. Do not agree for them to film it or confirm it's a "new breed" or whatever before they pay you. Get the $ up front and it's probably best to have your own lawyer present.
Do NOT notify the authorities right away, because they (Wildlife or Health Dept., etc.) will come over and confiscate the animal and then you will get nothing. They have the right to do that under various health laws. You should be able to get at least $10K from the Media company that does the 1st interview and releases the story first. Do not settle for a dime less and start @ $30K so you have room for negotiation. I only ask for a 10% consulting fee of all proceeds which is below the 15-20% norm :) or you can pay for my ticket so I can fly out there and do some shooting and drinking with you :)
I 'd be honored to act as your Agent on your behalf and do the $ negotiating and booking of interviews and meetings with the big Media companies. If you are camera shy I will sit in for you :)

Harry its way bigger than any fox around here and its the real thing... These creatures have spotted here numerous times in the last couple of years... Its the same dawg that been on tv, but this one is alive and ready to be trapped.. I am getting a hog trap ready now and I will rub Pine needles all over me to cover my scent.. We have a tun of pines on the ranch and it shouldn't alarm any animal that is in the area that smell it.. I will have a live chicken tied to the rear of the trap so he has to go all the way in to set it... I will probaly catch the bobcat also but we want to mount it anyway and put it in the ranch house...
-
No bro your supposed to rub the chicken all over you, it brings em in for a closer shot hehehe. Miss you bro hope all is well with my bro. :) Ed
-
Yes, cash in on the Interviews. And don't forget the money from the Movie rights. And a Book. But the Real $$$$$ will be in the Merchandising Rights!! T-Shirts, Hats, Mc Donalds Happy Meals, Burger King, Toys, Games.... it could be endless.
Amd since I have a long history as a scoundrel, I can be your agent.

So what yur saying Ed is that I should do the grape dance on the chicken and then walk to the trap... hmmm.. sounds solid enough...(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)
-
LOL yup hehehe. I know you'll snag em bro and when you do I'm coming down to check him out first hand without putting my hand in the cage. :o :) Ed
-
hows the trappin going?........update please....lol
-
Was driving from Rising Star, Texas, to Burkett, Texas(the closest beer to our dry town) and saw one of those cross the road a hundred or so yards in front of me. Kinda tripped me out! When I got to the store I'd asked JB(the owner) if he'd seen a weird, mangy lookin' black dog kinda of a thing for which he told me they frequent that area. Never once thought of hunting or trapping one but I'm not thinking it would be out of my character.
Thanks for posting! Keep the shiny side up Randall!

thats a good looking bobcat, look at the temp on the camera, 94*!!! send some of that heat down here!!! lol
-
I'm back from fishing and will be headed out this week to get a better trap. We are worried that he may not set off the hog trap, so we're gunna go the farm and ranch supply and look a few traps over that will work better.. I have been talkin to a few folks about gettin some live chickens, baby goats and stuff also for this weekend.. I think with enough scent removal and trap placement stratedgy that we will get him or something else. If you look at the pics and the dates he is using that area prety much as a home base.. he is comming in some and going in others. like that is his route back to his den.. I do suspect that he has a den like foxes and coyote's and our feeder is on his normal trail..
We shall see soon. Monster Quest here we come!!!!(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)
-
That thing is weird. If you do shoot it I think you should have it mounted. You would have the bragging rights to the ugliest mount!
-
Good luck with this capture attempt JQ.
I hope it works out for you. I'll be watching this thread from now on.
