No, didn't get to shoot one, but saw the first one of the year...and it was huge !!!!!
Coming back home,we always try to take the back roads that lead to a local farm area we call Woodchuck Alley. I looked at the wood line down in a low spot on the far side of a hay field and noticed some kind of critter sunning itself. Pulled over, got my 12x binos out and this thing was massive with a very long, dark tail. My first thought was why is an Otter this far from the river, then it moved in front of a better back ground and I could see it was a woodchuck, and about the biggest I've ever seen.
The girl friend got out the critter book to log in the sighting. I mentioned that it seems very early to be seeing them out for around here. She checked and last year's first sighting was the 14th of March so we're only a few days early.
Watching this one I couldn't help but think is the Trail XL enough gun to drop one this big. Sure hope I get a chance this year to find out !

That it early for you guys! I've seen some, but they are kinda hit and miss right now. The weather keeps getting hot and cold.

I did spot my first G-hog here.........he was laying in the middle of the road belly up. He must have been headed to see the ladies and failed to use the crosswalk. :o :0 Ed

On my last trip to the duck farm I saw one burrow with signs of fresh digging but didn't see the animal. It was in the high 50's for the past 3 days here, I'm hoping I see one soon although I've decided this year not to shoot any until the newborn youngins are capable of taking care of themselves.... it's going to be hard for me not to shoot when I get one in the cross hairs, but I'm gonna do my darndest to let em go for the first 6 weeks.....
Paul, any chance you can get permission to hunt em in "Woodchuck Alley" ???? Man,,,, that would be a home run.
