: NPSS compared to HW90
: Zzyzx March 14, 2010, 12:22:01 PM
In the consideration for a .22 Calibre gas ram to complement the Evanix Blizzard I am looking at the HW90. My reading here is giving me a lot of references to the newer Crosman/Remington NPSS. Might be just because it is new on the market and priced lower.
With price not really a consideration here does it make sense to get the HW for long term use over the NPSS? In shooting the RWS Model 48 we inherited(CDT Turbo-Tuned) and the recently traded for RWS 350 magnum in .177 calibre I really like the way they feel. Nice and solid and comfortable and shoot well. I know the Model 48 lasts as it is a 1985 vintage rifle that saw a fair amount of use and knocking around before the Turbo-Tune and our inheriting it. I read a lot about the total quality of HW rifles and since I am looking at a different calibre am considering it for the arsenal. I like the gas ram idea. I like quality in what I get for the job I need. HW over NPSS here?

i have a HW90 in .25 cal it's UNBELIEVEABLE ! GO FOR IT !  the hw 90 has the theoben gasram which is rebuildable the npss is not , you either need a new ram or a new gun . I do plan on buying a npss after a get an hw 80 but there is no comparison EXCEPT ! the npss is built in the USA.

If you are thinkingabout the HW-90 check out the Beeman RX-2. They are the same basic rifle but the laminated stock of the RX-2 is slightly heavier and denser tending to absorb more recoil making the RX-2 a pleasure to shoot. I have an RX-2 in .22 and an RX-2 in .20 will be coming in the very near future.

Wanting a gas ram rifle? Look at Theoben. Its a defiantly a gun you will pass on to your grand kid's kids. The HW90 or RX2 will serve well too. The Crosman guns are great but they are not even in the same league as the 90. From what it know and from what I've read Crosman has the upper hand in the cocking dept. The Theoben guns require a lot of force to cock some as much as 60lbs. That may not sound like much but after several shoots it becomes tiring.

Get the HW-90/RX-2,........you'll never look back with a single regret. Crosmans are gun shooters,...but I don't believe even the Nitro piston can stand up to the Theobin design over the long haul. I'd save up my money for a bit longer and go for the "good stuff"!! tjk
