So I saw the post with you guys bragging about splitting a playing card and thought hmmm exaggeration.
We'll a few weeks ago I was at the dollar store and bought a double deck of cards. I thought I would just shoot at the faces and suits. So today I remembered I had them and took one out and bent it in half so that it would fit under the clip board holder. I then looked at the rifles and thought which is one of the more accurate ones. Well my customized AR2079 was sitting front and center so I grabbed it and one Basic pellet.
Remember, I thought you guys were just bragging but I thought what the heck and lined it up. I haven't shot this particular rifle in quite some time and honestly I forgot how heavy it is with the tank out front. Well, I'm bobbing and weaving and finally drift the crosshairs onto the card. Squeeze. Holy crap. Do I see light shining down through the card? I walked up and here's the shot...

ANDY.... 1 shot.... Watch out everybody with Andy, he is an undercover SNIPER!!!!
Good shot Andy.

Thanks Gerald. Admitedly this was at 10 yards but I'm still impressed with myself! LOL
I know it was a lucky shot but I hope the nice weather we're having holds out because I want to try this at 30 yards.

Great shot, Andy! Bettcha never knew those cards would have that much movement, did ya. Seriously, that's a tough shot to make...it seems the card dances all over. Takes strong nerves....guess that's why I've never quite made the shot myself....best I've done is a .22 about a third of the way through.
-
Andy, I believe you read my post on cutting the card challenge. It's ain't bragging if you can do it....but as you see it ain't easy either. My son did it at 40 feet. And to tell the truth, I just about fell over when he hit the paper. Using such a good shooter as you have can you move your distance back some? Might be interesting?
I do believe we are carrying on the tradition of Marksmanship.
Good Shooting. and Good Luck.
I need to mention that other members have attempted and made the shot since the challenge. Not just my son.

Holy guacamole!! First shot!!! Good shooting my friend! Next trick is the light the non safety match without breaking it!! :p

Good shooting. There was a strand on here that mentioned it so I tried it and nailed it so I tried again to see if it was just lucky and got it then set up the camera and did it again a d posted the video here. Mine was only 35 ft so will try to stretch it to 15 or 20 yards then keep on backing up till I can't hit no more. Good luck on your 30 yd shot and let us know how it turned out.

Even " clipping " the card is impressive. I've put skid marks down the sides but not one clean cut for myself yet. Odds will eventually favor me cutting the card. Put enough pellets down range one is bound to hit centered.

DJ,
I found your post over at the Gamo gate. I don't go over there as much as I should. Holy crap that was cool. I see how you slotted some styrofoam to hold the card. i'm going to try that. I folded mine so if fit under the clipboard of my shooting box. I just noticed that I mounted it wrong and shot the shorter side of the card. I had folded it and used a black sharpie on the edge. Guess I didn't need that anyway. I'm going to try your method.
Did you use .22 or .17? Mine was .17 offhand. I'm going to have to try a full split of the card and the match trick.
Awesome shooting!

Uhhh, Clip, the card was deliberately bent so he would have a way to attach the card to the backstop, so it only shows him splitting the part of the card whose edge was facing him.
-
Just make sure you backstop isn't flammable when you shoot the match.
-
Yeah, LongIsland...I got the part that the card was bent for a reason. Still....It was a great shot. My reference to the card "dancing around" was meant to infer that nerves will cause the rifle to move whether you want it to or not. I always blamed the target moving..(dancing )..rather than admit it was me. I sure did not wish to infer it was a lucky shot.
-
Hmm. this might be a good target shooting challenge for that forum......
Now I want to try it when I get home tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I could never do it offhand, that would be pure luck on my part.
For those of you that are going to do this, we like PICTURES, and Video is even better :D

Best I have ever done was to shoot the head off a match at 20 yards. It took me 3 shots to do it, but the amazing thing is what I did it with. A .22 caliber breakbarrel springer.
-
To put it into perspective, the 10 dot on international 10M target is 1mm, the card is ~0.5mm thick. If you can hit the 10 dot you can hit the card. Relatively easy with good gun from the bench, a challenge when shooting from standing position.
-
I used the sharpy to color the edge black then set up styro foam behind it to try to make it stand out. The used toothe pics to hold it up. Just put the verticle crosshares on it and couldent see it anymore then pulled the trigger.
You shot yours off hand, thats awesome. I was using my weight lifting bench to sit on. All my shot are with a 177 Gamo Hunter np. It's a sweet gun.

After shooting ends of sticks of chalk with the Talon SS in .177 cal, I pinned a gas card to the target holder at 15 yards.
Shot 7 was the first hit, but did not split the card. Three more shots the card was hit again, but still no split. The third hit split the card into. I sure would like to say that the third hit only took one more shot, but after about 10 shots, I lost count. My guess would have to be about 17 shots, because I started out with 30 pellets. The last couple shots were taking at a 100 yard can.
Next up will be the S400 in .22 cal. When weather and time permits.

That looks like a plastic card, try one made out of cardboard. They'll cut easily without shattering.
