: What would make a Disco an AIRHOG???---
: ray1377 March 22, 2010, 03:50:03 AM
What is the "normal" shot count on a .22 Disco?
I don't think it gets anywhere near what my .177 Disco gets.

ray,...ryans box stock disco .177 gets easily gets 40-50 shots before theres a noticable pressure drop. my mac-1 tuned .22 disco gets maybe 30 on the outside............

I thought box stock was on average 30 to 35?
That 40 to 50 sounds great.

ray, we havent chronied ryans gun yet, we're still trying sample pellets thru it to see what it likes. 40ish or more off a 2000psi fill, again.its bone stock.
im getting ready to pull the trigger assembly, its got to have the worst trigger ive felt.
i'll do the 3 screw mod, trying to see what "light" trigger return spring guys have been using. any suggestions ?

Yes, I forgot to ask what FPS most were getting with their .22 discos along with shots per fil.
I can fill mine to 2000psi and after about 12 to 14 shots its already down to 1000psi.
That just sounds like alot of wasted air to me.
Any ideas?

ray,.....again mines been modded by mac-1 . using 8 round qb mags, i can go thru three mags ( 24 shots) before i see a big pressure drop.

This Might sound funny to you guys...But this is my observation of my .22 Disco. from a from a 2000psi fill up and shooting down to about 1000psi I get about 30-35 shots average. (using different pellets)

But When I only use the JSB pellets, I get about 40-45 shots from that same fill up. I've noticed that these jsb (14.3,15.8) fit tight in the barrel, have a wider skirt, conserve air better. that's probably why these are more accurate then the crosman premiers in my gun

The CP don't fit as snug, have a smaller skirt (even though they shoot okay) they use more air, and i noticed when shooting these pellets my gun is louder ( I have a TKO ) so I can tell the difference. I can actually see the extra air come out the barrel when i shoot these.

i don't have a chrony yet...but i'll bet the jsb fly faster and hit harder!

That is an air hog.

If it's set to really smack the hell out of the valve by way of heavy spring tension, it's going to use a lot of air per shot... and much of that air is just making noise, it's arriving too late to really help push the pellet.   If you've a "power adjuster" back it off.

Could leak at the shot, wasting some of that air. If either the transfer port or the bolt probe. doesn't seal right, get a puff of air you can feel around the breech (can dust it with baby powder or hand a strip of tissue paper over the breech to check).   that would help it use more air per shot than normal.

Dry fire (shooting with no pellet in the barrel) will use a lot more air per shot than firing a pellet will; the pellet creates a bit of back pressure. Also find that heavy pellets use a bit less air than light pellets for the same reason (but that's a small differnce...like two or three shots per string).

How many shots in a string?  Depends on how much vel. variation you can live with.  For shooting tin cans at 40-50yards or paintball sized things at 20-25yards takes a lot of vel. variation to result in a miss, so can shoot 35-45-or even 50 shots.  If shooting small targets at distance or shooting targets for score (trying to stay in the 10 ring) than maybe 20-25 shots have a small enough spread  to not screw you with high or low shots.

My factory stock .22 Disco gets 23-24 shots avg 805fps with a max variation of 30fps from ~1850psi to ~1050psi using Discovery HPs. It will do more 'shots' from 2000 to 1000psi and lower but the velocity varies quite a bit more adversely affecting accuracy. Takes about 45 pumps for the refill to the 1850psi. 'sweet spot'.

Just a thought, but could a rear plug screw, either coming down from the breech, or up from the trigger assembly be a tad too long and be binding or catching the spring and making the gun shoot like the spring is shorter and stouter? Therefore using more air per shot?
