All,
I have seen in several photos on this forum what looks to be a pellet holder attached to/around the rifle scope, anyone know where to purchase or (if homemade) what there made of?
Thanks
Greg

That's Wade S's and Doug T's guns.
I was wondering also.
They look like the gray foam rings Pyramyd packs their pellet tins in. I was thinking of trying to make some if I could just remember where I saved the pellet packing foam.

I`ve also seen someone use a strip of carpet bedding (?)....the foam layer under carpets.....around their scope to hold the pellets.

(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif)The foam is pipe insulation found in your Lowe's or Home Depot's plumbing department. They come in various lengths in 1/2 copper pipe size or 3/4 copper pipe size. The guys them drill holes in them for their pellets........Bill(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

Here are some that are commercially made. Here is a link to the manufacturer's web site. Pyramyd Air also sells them. http://www.pelletholder.com/photos.htm Like others have said, you can make then yourself if you want. Good luck, snookman

Got one, - never use it, waaay over-priced.

Try Cobra Airguns. I have one in each caliber. They're really helpfull in the field.

If you are a hunter they are actually pretty handy with the springer guns. Sure beats fishing around in your pockets for the next shot. The holders work best for predators and pointed pellets since they are longer.

The one I have is WAY over priced at about $0.05. Like Bill said, it's a piece of pipe insulation held on by a small zip-tye. The denser, the better. I take a small nail, about 1/8" diameter, and grind the end flat. I then heat it in a torch flame until hot but not too hot. That's the trick. Too hot and the hole gets too big, not hot enough and the nail gets gummed up with partially molten foam. I use a vicegrips to grab the "cool" end of the nail and wave it through the flame and then quickly poke the foam, in and out. I then heat the nail tip for 4-5 more seconds before the next hole, repeating the process until all the holes are formed. The heat cauterizes the foam. The first one I made the nail was too hot and the holes were too big, causing the pellets to vibrate out when shooting. The second one was good and I've been using it for 1+ years. WadeS's lasted a year or so but he kept torquing the zip-tye causing it to not work as well. I just built him another last week with smaller holes and it's the best one to date. We used CA glue (superglue) to glue the cut ends of the foam together and it worked great. Be careful of the type of glue you use, some eat up foam quickly. Pointed or domed pellets skirts stick out about 1/16" while H-points and wadcutters are nearly flush with the foam. Just a light push into the foam with your fingertips allows you to grab the skirt to remove the pellet. Ours holds about 18-20 pellets. You don't want to make them too close or you will have difficulties grabbing just one. The picture shows one remaining H-point in the left/forward row and Superpoints in the right/rear row. My next one will be glued like WadeS's.
Hope this helps.
Doug

Thanks for all the Info! I'm going to use the Doug T design as I think it will be a fun project, cheap too.

Thanks guys.
I dug around and found a bag of scraps of 1 inch gray pipe insulation I had left over from plumbing work. Used my 1/8 inch leather punch to make the holes, and some sail maker's double stick tape to join the ends once it was in place on the scope. Made one for each of my pellet guns.
Works great !!!

(I really wasn't posting pictures to show off my pellet holder, I just wanted folks to say "gee what a nice RWS 350, and congrats on the raccoon) :D
-
Here's one I did. It's made of leather from an old belt.

I've just been using it and I like the scope mounted one because whenever I lay the gun down the pellets can't touch any surface the gun is laying on.
As Doug said, it holds 16 pellets. I tried some other hi density foam I had, but the 1/4 inch thick pipe insulation is just the right thickness and density to hold, but still allow my fingers to push in the foam and grab the pellet skirts easily.
And this 1 inch pipe insulation is just the right inside diameter to rotate it with one finger and it will stay where I stop it, so that when partially full, where the remaining pellets are doesn't fall down where I'd have to spin it back up to get to a pellet.
Thanks again,
Paul.

On my powermaster 66 I use the foam tube to hold pellets. I have some that sticks together at the seam. You also dont have to use a drillbit to make the holes. Use a straw like the one on a WD-40 can and just pop a hole in it. Works great, and you dont need a wire tie to hold it on.

I sure like mine that Doug made for my gun. It works great.
