Got me a skunk with Predator pellets in .22 a little while ago. Man what a mess. It dropped it very, very fast. It was the most blood I have ever seen from an animal shot with an air rifle. The predator pellets are deadly! I had to get out the hose and hose everythng down and found brain parts in my yard. Geesh....

LOL..... Did ya get sprayed... :) I think Redfeather had a good story about his two neighbors that shot a skunk in there back yard. They got funigated really good.. he he he

I got sprayed well misted once. I shot a skunk 40 yards away (head shot) and all of a sudden the wind shifted & pow right in the eyes. I only shoot them at 50 yards plus now with my .22 rimfire.

That's why I broke out the hose too. I started spraying down the area before I got to it.

My brother shot a skunk years ago that had got in the hen house. The skunk ran under my mother's house and died. My Dad was gone on a construction job. My brother and mother had to get it out from under the house. They had to burn their clothes. Thank goodness I lived 140 miles from them. I laughed till I had tears in my eyes when they told me the story. They didn't see the humor for some reason.

I think I'll be sticking with squirrels LOL.
Nice shooting and smell avoidance!

Well, I'll tell you why I shoot the skunks. If you've ever been to West Texas you would know about the "Swamp Coolers" we use here. They are evaporative air conditioners. They have big turbines in them to flood the house with cool air. Well, we have sooo many cats in the area that whenever a skunk comes out, the cat's mess with it and the skunk sprays. When the skunk sprays, the turbine sucks the smell right into the house and floods the house with skunk smell. Not a pleasant odor. I have woke up in the middle of the night with my nose burning on many occasions :) So, If I get the chance to take out a skunk, I'm doing it.

what rifle did you use?
-
I used my Charlie tuned B30 in .22 caliber shooting the Predator pellets. The ones with the red plastic point protruding from the tip. On another note, I used them on a jack rabbit hunt the other day and wow, what an entrance and exit wound. They went completely through the skull leaving a big (1/2") hole.

Another good reason to kill the skunks is that they carry rabies and can live with the disease for their entire lives. At least, that's what I read in an outdoors mag years ago.
-
I`ve heard that to Jay...

Heh-heh! We had those evaporative coolers when I was a kid! Big! Noisy! But that's all we had back then.
I heard that ketchup takes-out skunk smell, but could never get enough packages in my pants at McDonalds, years ago, to do much good...

Same here too....we had skunks galore...and were choking from them every night. So I took matters into my own hands with my trusty Hammerli Storm .22 and some Kodiak pellets. I took out 6 in 2007 over a 50 acre area. There's still a few smarter ones left but I'll get them too. Thats way too many for a fifty acre area of grassland. The smarter ones are the ones who run when they see me comin. I think theres about 3~5 of those left.
