So this morning i get up and take the kids to school and when i pull back in the driveway i see a squirll jump almost six feet from the roof of one of my sheds to the bird feeder.Almost all the seed goes flying everywhere and the squirlls start stuffing their faces.I really thought i had this feeder out of their reach,i was wrong.Needless to say i was a little ticked off about this and went straight for the .22 marauder.Being they are out of season here in syracuse i put down the mrod and just took some pop shots with my 880 pumped 3 times.
if you guys feel i could of used the maruader and not felt bad about it let me know.i obey my hunting regulations,but if they brake my feeder i feel i have the right to do what i want because they will be destroying my things.

Hunting and pest control mite be 2 differnt things up there. Maybe you can find a loop hole.

Sounds like pest control to me.. M-Rod should be your main pest control tool...:)

Like you, I obey the game laws as well. However,, if a critter is being a nuisance and creating damage then all bets are off and I take them out as quickly as possible. If there's a non lethal way of correcting the problem then that's the way to go, but if culling is the only viable solution then have at it and don't feel bad.

Also being from the Syracuse area I'm frustrated by not being able to legally hunt grays when they're actually out and about. Who ever set hunting season for the dead of winter wasn't a hunter. There are so many nutters in my yard gray (including the rare black furred gray) that I go nuts myself. The only positive is that my feeder is indeed squirrel proof and I get some satisfaction watching them try. They chewed a hole in most of the garage doors around here and if I didn't already replace mine with aluminum, I'd be controlling those pests on my own terms. Now the crows are stalking the squirrel nests in my yard (I have two). Looking for baby squirrel snacks. My wife gave me permission to take them out of season and I just might.

I went thru the same dilemma on Monday and all I will say is the vandalizing nutters wont be getting to my feeders from where they are now :)

This is the feeder I have. It has one small dent from where a chipmonk met his fate.

The squirrels can't get at the seed as it gets blocked by their weight when they step on the spring loaded platform.
Of course mine is mounted off my deck rail on a post and the bandits can stand up and reach seed without pressing on the platform.
I see another dent in this feeder's future.
