: Air Venturi vs Nitro Piston
: TexasShooter72 April 01, 2010, 11:56:52 AM
The names keep changing.  Just trying to get caught up here.  I've been absent a few months.

I've seen within the Pyramydair site that the Gamo's with metal springs were initially being replaced with what were being called "Air Venturi" gas rams.  The Air Venturi name seems to have disappeared and what I am seeing now are "Nitro Piston" struts or NPSS.  Are the two one in the same having been bought out by Crosman?  Are they made overseas or has production since been brought back to the US?  Not that it matters but I do support American labor!  Perhaps there were some legality issues regarding namesake.

Just curious.

Anyone know the story on this?

What I understand is that some guns get the Air Venturi while others get the Nitro. I believe Crosman has sublet the production of Nitro pistons to Vortek. Don't know who makes the Air Venturi.

Well that's a start!  I missed Paul at Pyramyds call on Friday but he emailed me.  Just curious as to their origin.  Thanks!

I spoke to Tom Gore at Vortek and they're no longer making the Nitro Pistons for Crosman.  Crosman decided to start making the NP themselves.

For sure no one makes a gas venturi for Crosman NiPSS Nitro's any longer because Crosman does not sell them under that name any longer. But with that said the same piston is used in the Remington Nitro NPSS which is the same as the Crosman NPSS. Whether Vortek makes them for Crosman or Crosman is having them sourced out to another manufacturer, the piston in both the Crosman NPSS and the Remington Nitero is the exact same spects. And I drought that Crosman is even producing any gas rams themselves. It is sourced out for sure to someone. There guns are assembled in New York USA.

Paul at Pyramyd wrote me back and the email is as follows for those who are interested:

Hello Matt,

Just in case we don't hook up.  Crosman purchased the rights from Vortek manufacturing to be the exclusive distributor of their gas ram/springs we were labeling as Air Venturi.  So now we have to buy them from Crosman whom renamed them and advertise as required, the Crosman Nitro Piston name.  Same product, now we just pay more for it.

Take care,
Paul

Guess that sheds some light on some things, eh?
