: Didn't get the memo.

For the most part, the Starlings have been staying away from the bird feeder prefering to dig around in the grass for whatever bugs they can find... except this one. Guess this one didn't hear that it's time to change over to eating bugs.  Another one that was DRT thanks to the 22 Trail XL and Predators.

Another nice shot Paul!

Nice shot.  Predators from the Trail XL should be something to see.  At that speed I'm guessing they are expanding slightly.  Have you ever removed one of these Predator/XL pellets after a kill?

DougT,

Can't tell .. there's nothing to remove !  :D   The Predators  blow through a  Starling, both wings and the body,  like it's not even there.

After they exit Starlings up on the feeder, I've heard them smacking branches all the way at the rear of my property.

After hitting one Starling at the edge of my driveway, the Pred ricocheted off the driveway and is buried deep in the wood planks of my barn siding. All the other Preds chewed up ground and disintergrated beyound any of the Starling that were standing at ground level.

And, the exit wound damage is much greater compared to the JSB Jumbos I was using.

Only one fly-off and it dropped like a rock after going about 60 feet. The rest have been instantly DRT !!!!

With the same center mass hits using Jumbo 15.8 gr,  the 13.4 gr Jumbo RS, and the Jumbo heavies, all out of my gas Whisper, about 50% fly off, never to be found. Out of about 50-60 I shot with the Whisper and Jumbos this winter, only had a couple that dropped right where they were standing, and quite a few others that flipped around, or ran and needed follow up shots. A couple needed mulitple follow up shots. And a few of what someone rightly called "Zombie birds" they are down, on thier back, not moving, yet minutes later they up and run, or fly off.

So far, with the Trail and  Preds I'm 6 for 6.  And with all of those, only needed one Pred each and they are done !

When you shoot something bigger, like a bear or elephant, try to retrieve it and post a pic.  I'm tempted to try the Predators in my TF-89 and HPA 850.

I've noticed the superpoints are going through starlings and hitting branches while the H-points usually don't go through.  I've shot two squirrels and retrieved the slightly mushroomed pellet under the skin on the back side.  The trail is noticeably more powerful and would still go through.

Ok,I'll dig one out if something bigger shows up ! Sure hope it does. :D

Only thing I tried the Predators on in the Whisper was the first five Squirrels I shot last September, and they were all  runners - including one that was head shot, through and through at just 6 yards, only to be up and running a few minutes later. I was so discussed that I gave up on them for hunting. I switched to using Jumbos and got 21 more Grays, and 7 Reds. And only a few, mostly the Reds, needed follow-up shots.

That's why I was so surprised to see how well the Preds do in the Trail.

With the Whisper, at 627fps, I don't think the Preds were going at speeds that made them as affective.

In the Trail at 826fps they are amazing how quickly they kill. Other than the one that flew 60 feet before dropping out of the air, the birds are litterally dead before they hit the ground, because once they touch down there is no movement at all. Just like flipping their switch to off.

Good shooting Paul. I like to read the stories and see the pics, but I'm trying to ignore that little voice in my head telling me I need a new Benji Trail NPXL. I called my gun dealer buddy last night and asked hime to get tell me what his dealer cost is my wife shot me look that still scares me to think about it. But I've seen her look at me that way before and I lived through it.

Paul, keep shooting those nasty birds. All they are good for is target practice and a good time.
Furseeker, I have found it is easier to be forgiven that it is to get permission.

Paul,

I think yours had a brother that missed the memo as well.  Maybe it was a cross-country family reunion they were attending when the memo went out.

I was cruising out to our property this morning with the 850 riding shotgun.  I normally go the last mile slowly because there are lots of birds on the power lines, on fences and in the trees.  Mainly starlings.  I saw three of them about 1/8 mile ahead and slowed down to about 2 mph.  When I got about 50 yards away I rolled down the window and slowed even more.  As I got to about 30 yards, two of them flew off so I stopped.  It was on the left side of the road on the neutral (lowest power line).  I pulled the 850 out and ended up shooting left handed out the window.  This gun is great because of the lack of recoil you can see the pellet fly against the skylight.  "WHOP" and down it went into a thicket of weeds and wasn't to be recovered.  He just waited a few seconds too long.

I guess next time they better pay attention.

Chris,
Yes, the Benji Trails are made in China.

It's the Remington NPSS (formerly known as the Crosman NPSS) that are the ones made in USA.
