I finally was able to get enough time and materials to build a muzzle brake and shroud for my B-3.. The B-3 I have had a sight with ring on the barrel end. It was easy enough to remove but the barrel had 4 steps in it. 4 different diameters...:) the very end was nurled which accounted for one size, then the next step was the fit for the sight tube itself. Then there was the barrel itself which was a different size and back by the breech there were threads which was about 1/4" long...:)
So as you can see making a custom shroud, and brake was quite a feat for me.. I used two types of materials.. For the brake and the back insert for the shroud, I used delrin for brake and back insert, then I used something like PVC for the shroud.. I do not know what it is called but I got it at Low's and the guy said it was like PVC but stronger...:) What I liked about it was it was not as britle as PVC to work with..
I wanted the muzzle brake a snug fit on the end of barrel because I have other muzzle brakes with allen screws to lock them on the barrel.. I am sure they work well with aluminum and steel but plastic seems to soft to tighten the brake on the barrel tight enough.. I made a step in the back of brake to accomidate the shroud. A nice slip fit.. I then made the insert for back by the breach where the shroud would but up to.. Also made it to fit inside the shroud. The shroud I was able to use a boring bar on to cut the I/D to fit the insert and brake at each end.. Once evertying was cut and finished it all sliped together very nice.. I painted the parts and today I put it on the B-3.. It is nothing radical but just cosmetics for my B-3 baby..:) I slipped the insert against the breech and slid on the shroud and took a small rubber mallet and drove the brake down till everthing was tight.. WA LA.... hehe
All in all it was a fun project on my new lath. I was able to get aquainted with some new tools as well... In my younger days they used micrometers... Now they use digital calipers and such..:) Hope to be spinning out some more stuff soon..:)

PS... I should have my camera back by first of next week and will take some pics............:)

Hay Gene,
Great Post Gene, gave me some ideas, and that ain't too easy, either. I don't have a lathe but I do have a drill press, and taps and dies !
The only thing that would have improved your post is photos. :) I had to read it twice for my mind, what littlethere is,to picture this.
And I second motion those spring guides for our B-3'S, BUDDY !!! P-L-E-A-S-E !!!!
And why didn't you tell us that you got the lathe ??? You knowthat inquiring mindsneed to know ! :)

Did I hear that Gene is making custom spring guides for everyone ?? :) :)
That's the rumor floating around............ :)

Dano's blowing his gun apart already, I must pump you up hehe. Ed

Yea, it was really cute, pull the trigger, "Plink!".....followed by the sound of high pressure air leaking "shhhhhhhhhh".

Was it faulty, to much air? what caused the malfunction bud. Ed

LOL ok ok Ed now I get the hint lol hmm I happen to have a 1 1/8" delrin rod about 3' long hmm I wonder what it could be used for? Hmmm maybe this? Sure wish I had a little more money to ship this nifty chunk of Delrin off to someone who has a nifty mini lathe to crank out some parts hehe.

I found that fitting one really gets rid of that crack from the muzzle. In the cheap and cheerful spirit of the B3 I used a bit of old TV aerial pole and some steel bar end I found knocking about the place.I turned the 2 ends on the lathe from the steel bar to fit the bore of the tubing and tapered one off to blend into the barrel, drilled and tapped for an M6 grub screw.Inside the tube it is divided roughly 70/30 with what amounts to a repair washer and for sound deadening I used that filling/insulation stuff they sew up in quilts wrapped around an old lightweight spring i had in the workshop

Very nice Mark... On my brake, I did not taper it much.. It is more a gradual taper... I don't expect this to decrease any sound but just for the esthetics...

Yes that turned out very nice Mark. Sound's like you do what some of us do, start looking around the shop for material to make airgun part's out of. My wife eyeball's me when I start looking at thing's in our house hehe. She ask me, why don't you just buy the part?. Now that wouldn't be no fun.;) Ed

It was faulty, I only charged it to 200bar max. The gun had a slow leak from when I first got it, but I replaced the fill nipple o-ring and thought I got it licked. I noticed it was still losing air the day before yesterday, but no bubbles during my soapy water leak check. So I charged her up and took one shot "Plink! Shhhhhhhhhh!!!!!". I took it apart last night and what I suspect is a hairline crack in the poppet from the factory, which caused the slow leak, then the final failure which caused the final complete leak out. I am waiting for Sportsmantarget to email me about a replacement now.

Do you mean not everyone does it ? :) Even the cheapest chinese suppressor costs £23 here (46 USD) took me about an hour and a half most of which was spent getting the front iron sights off ! Thats 4 tins of plinking pellets! Thing is thats the only thing I`ve done to this rifle I will have to pull my finger out.

Hay Gene,
I'll surprise the HECK out of ya, I'll even pay for a B-3 spring guide !!!!! Can you believe that ???
What do you think, BUDDY ??? PAL

Jeff, I think you have me mixed up with Ed...hehehe

Thank's Dano, I was wondering what went south on her. Ed
