Around 3 this afternoon decided to take the .22 XL to the duck farm again to see if we could nail a g-hog. Well, I did see 3 g-hogs but never got a shot. I did however nail 3 nice yellow beaks. First bird was a 30 yard shot using the oil tank I was hiding behind to lean on. Second bird was a 40 yard off hand shot as the yellow beak sat on a phone wire and the third bird was another off hand shot on a bird at the top of a large dead tree. All three yellow beaks went down hard :) I took a 50 yard shot at a starling sitting on a branch singing his heart out but I shot a little low and the pellet hit the branch right at his feet.
I didn't take any pics, was rather dark when I got home, but the XL really put a hurtin on these birds. On all 3 birds the CPHP's blasted in one side and blasted out the other side :)

Jeff sounds like a fun and productive day! It also sounds like it's only a matter of time before we see that gun and a ground hog in the same picture.

I keep seeing g-hogs every time I go to the farm but when I see them they are always right next to their burrows doing their excavation work and they don't stray far from the holes at all. I guess they're actually just starting to get really active because on each trip I find new burrows with signs of fresh digging. Today I found 4 burrows that were untouched several days ago but today showed clear signs of digging. The other problem is that my technique for stalking within range hinges around having the high grass and bushes to use as cover as I slowly get within range, but the grass and bushes are just starting to show signs of active growth so I have no cover and concealment to use during my stalks so the g-hogs see me coming. It's still fun to stalk them though and while the foliage and grass grows I'll keep at it and hopefully get lucky one of these days.... :)

Dang Jeff, you are spoiling all the meat...:)

I know,,,, when I skinned out the 3 yellow beaks they kept breaking in 1/2 :)
All I could salvage was the breast meat :)
