: scope mount dilema
: Tyger April 06, 2010, 12:20:44 AM

I got my Whisper back from Gene and Ed who turbotuned it and shared their weath of knowledge with me (thank you, Gene and Ed).

I mounted my scope this morning, (GAMO scope 3x9-40 packaged with the Whisper) and am afraid that I suffer the problem that may be typical of a non-AO scope: the targetlacksfocus at 20 yards, but is pretty much in focus at 30 yards and more.

I wonder:is there anything I can do to gain focus at short yardage, such as loosening the large screw (picture center; the factory did the sloppy work on the screw slot, not me) andmoving the scope/mount forward along the rail?

Any help offered is greatly appreciated. Tyger

Hey Tyger, leave that screw alone...:)  Just a good scope my friend..:) and use the stop pin hole that is in the rail and not that screw hole..:)

Thank you Gene. Yes, I have the stop pinset into its intended hole. Starting to Jones for an OA already!

I squeezed off a few yesterday after I got back from North Carolina, and things look like they are OK. Looking forward to regaining some of my shooting skills and narrowing the goups down, if I can.

Thats some pretty good grouping.

As for scopes I have a Leapers Tactedge on my gamo hunter and can see crystal clear from 35 ft to 60 yards. Thats the farthest I have shot it so far. My Leapers golden image with AO is inbound and should be here today. Before the first one broke it was pretty nice. I only shot it out to 25 yards and was stil sighting it in when it broke. Both are nice scope though and pretty inexpensive. Tact edge was $52 has illuminated reticle and zero locking target turrets. I love that feature. No magnification but does has a focus that helps. I have it on  my Gamo Hunter and can nail matches at 25yards shooting from a lawn chair. The golden Image scope is in the $40's and not a bad scope for the limited amount of time I shot it. WIll have a better report this weekend. Wife works so wil have plenty of time to shoot.

Good luck and good shooting

Timmyj made a post last year on how to focus a non-AO scope. I have done it on 2 scopes and it worked well for me.

With scopes that don`t have AO....when shooting 10 meters or under I just use 3X or 4X magnification.  Anything over and the scope will get blurry.  In my basement...I only have about 8 yards distance...so it`s 3 or 3 1/2 power magnification.  And yes, those cheap Gamo and Crosman scopes do work at those distances and power.
