: Which gun?
: Tpatner412 April 06, 2010, 07:52:22 PM
Alright so I'm In a bit of a pickle here. I have roughly 3 weeks to purchase my next airgun (don't ask about the time frame) and the cometa fusion .177 is out of stock. According to Pamona Air they will be in around late April. So I can wait For that or I've been looking at and RWS 34, the Remington npss, or a Disco. All in .177. I'm open to other suggestions but I have about a $450 budget. I do mostly target shooting but I take the occasional shot at a squirrel or bird when the opportunity presents itself. I figure all of those guns can put down small rodents etc.

Thanks everyone

Tyler

The Cometa importer is Manou Bros. at http://www.manoubros.com/ (http://www.manoubros.com/)and you might also check with their other dealer, Air-Venture. The Fusion would be my favorite on the list, the '34 would be second (and you will have enough budget for some nice glass).

Disco is cool, just a different animal altogether.

I agree with Dave. Although the Disco would be a great addition, remember the support equipment you would need and the budget for that too. Tank, pump, adapter hose, etc...

Happy Shooting!!!!

Well I would definitely get the combo with the benji pump and
as far as I know that combo gives you everything you need to fill and shoot the gun?

You know, after you pump it up 2-3 times, you're gonna want a tank and hose.

If you want a PCP on that budget with pump, Disco is the way to go. It would be a pain to pump up to 2k from 0, but in theory you only have to do that once. From then on, you are topping off. I haven't done it because when I got the Marauder I just ordered a tank ahead of time, but people manage it.

To me the PCP is so different from a springer that I would decide first which technology to go for. PCP would be more like the firearms shooting experience, after it's pumped up. That would include more noise than a springer, if that's a concern (devices can be added, but more $).

Springer is totally self-contained, always ready, and generally pretty quiet. They are trickier to shoot, but the ones on your list are good ones.

So I would pick the category first, then look at what fits the budget. And of course, leave money for glass and mounts (the mounts being more important on those springers).

Well my problem is that I already have a springer. Now I personally believe one is too few but I also feel like breaking into pcp early would set
me up to buy more later when I have the
money to do so. I'm not worried about pumping up a pcp. I see the point of a tank but if I can get
one with a gun for a decent price I'd rather
have the pump becuase it will (in theory) always work and not need o get filled up
at a dive shop. I appreciate the input though. I think this is going to be a tought decision regardless.

That's a good point. While cookies are tasty I would take a Timbo stock over them any day

Well, if you have a good springer now, I would try the PCP. If you have a cheaper or so-so springer, maybe you have not had the quality springer experience yet. Dunno whatcha got.

Some guys go PCP and don't seem to want any more to do with springers. They do have cookies on the dark side.

Me, I have drifted back to springers for daily use because I like to just cock, load, and shoot. I like the machinery, and concentrating on shooting them makes me a better shooter all around. Neighbors are none the wiser, although they probably wouldn't care anyway (rural area).

Timmy makes some nice stocks for springers too, doesn't he?

And to confuse matters, I am personally interested in the NPSS alternative now, and that's where I'm going next.

The important thing is... anew toy. No wrong choices on your list.

Well Dave Ive been after the fusion for so long I can't help but make that number one. But the npss is probably my number two it's just a matter of finding good prices and places that actually have them in stock

I have all of them except for the Remington. I would get the 34 and spend the extra on a tune. If you can do it yourself get the right lubes and a vortek kit. I wasn't a big RWS fan until I spent some real time with my 34. I would really like a 34 compact but gotta move one before I get another. Just a little rule I have to stay out of trouble.

I have two  that you are thinking about and the discovery is one, The drawback for your planned use is pumping.the pumping gets old real quick when plinking, target shooting, been there, done that. I use mine for hunting now. The RWS 34 is hard to beat, good power, accurate, easy to load and it can get the job done when used for hunting.

Did someone say something about fine furniture...:) I am very lucky to have a few fine pieces of furniture from Tim Meredith Custom Stock Works...:) Here is some Eye Candy...:)

Hey Gene. Does your 34 compact suffer from barrel droop?
: Re: Which gun?
: Gene_SC April 07, 2010, 01:39:39 PM
No Tyler, I just dropped a Hawk scope on her and dialed her in. My other 34 did not need a drooper mount or shims. It it is over 20 years old. Also put a Hawk on her as well. Remember that that not all scopes have the adjustment range as others. It is something you will find out after buying almost every scope made that is springer rated...:)

Thanks for the info. In your opinion are there any clear cut benefits to having the pro compact over the full size 34?
: Re: Which gun?
: Gene_SC April 07, 2010, 03:02:27 PM
For me it is personal preference. I like the shorter barrels. I am in love with carbines... and have quite a few of them..:)

Easy !!!  Beeman R7 ....they are a joy to shoot. Ask anybody who owns own. With the Disco I can't get passed the furniture, trigger and trigger guard.

Good luck

They have cookies and milk on the PCP Side. Pumping is a hassle but I use my Marauder for birds 30 shots and it is dead on, just top it off when I come in and it is ready to go for tomorrow and  I use my whisper for shooting paper. I think a person needs one of each. If your going to punch paper the pump will wear you out.
