: Yet Another Morning Harvest In Nutter City.....
: Gene_SC April 08, 2010, 10:27:28 AM

Again I woke up to the smell of hot java brewing. Staggered into the kitchen and poured a cup and proceeded out to the back deck. And again Ed had been hunting in squirrel city out back again. No sooner did he come walking up on the deck and a nutter started barking at us. So Ed walked around under the big tree hanging over the house and deck. Raised the barrel on the Trail NP .22 and bam.. Got another one..:) My dog Dee Dee quickly dispatched herself to go retrieve the squirrel and Ed right behind her. LOL

Here is a quick picture I took of the squirrel falling out of the tree..:) I have learned if you hang with Ed and want pictures you better carry your camera around your neck..:) Cause he is quick on the draw when he spots his target..:)

Yup spotted this guy jetting across a limb above us then held up on a limb 15yrd's above us. All he would show me was his hind quarter and tail so I raised up the trail and put the cross hairs on that spot and figured the FTS would rip through his insiides so sent it away. Gene and I both heard the sound of a solid impact and the Gray tumbled from his hiding spot. This tough lil guy caught a limb on his way down and hung on just long enough to let Gene get another pic of his death grip and then dropped to the dirt. Genes trusty Squirrel dog was on him to keep him held up till I got there hehehe. The Gray was dead on impact the FTS did a pass through from his hind quarter and out the other side. I dropped another later in the day today and will get a pic of him after the rain stops. Ed

Beeman Field Target Specials and this is my first time testing them on small game. Their a accurate pellet, hard hitting and deadly on nutters from what I've seen.

Ed,  It appears that you really like this gun.  This is the NP trail and not the XL version, right?  I'm trying to decide between the two.  How powerful and accurate is it?  Have you taken any game larger than squirrels with it yet?  If not, do you think that it's powerful enough for raccoons or groundhogs? How much tuning has Gene done on it?  Favorite pellets?  I understand that I will need to clean the barrel, install a GRIII trigger, replace the seal and possibly upgrade the scope in order to achieve consistent accuracy in either version.  I intend to punch paper and do some hunting.  Thanks in advance for your feedback.  Tom

I plan on hunting Bandit's with it and know it will have no problem dropping them if the hunter does their part. This Trail was pushing CP 14.5gr at 760fps and is very accurate considering it's still breaking in. Gene did the debure, lube, seal and machined a guide sleeve which slides around the gas ram and inside the pston, makes for a better fitting ram as it sit's in the piston. So far I've only tested the FTP and their very accurate since I'm hitting nutters out past 25yrds. I will be testing other hunting ammo down the road. Ed

So far she's proven to be deadly on the nutters but will get broken in on other critters. Ed

Well, Ed, for a guy who has never killed a gray squirrel before this trip south, it looks like you are making up for lost time.  Need to get you up to the place in NC where the gray squirrels are more plentiful, though.  Good shooting.

Wow...nice action shot of the nutter falling down.  Yup, Ed`s got a fantastic shot.  His Benji Trail NP is smacking those nutters hard.
