: New Game Camera Video!
: atchman2 April 09, 2010, 04:52:36 PM
I've recently moved my game camera out to my friend Jim's house. I've been turkey hunting (with a shotgun) out there a couple of times. Actually I'm headed back out in a few hours to try and get my first bird.  Anyway, here is a week of game camera footage from his land.  Tomorrow, I have a bunch of turkey bones and leftovers from a fried turkey I had a few days ago (YUM!).  I hope you enjoy it!  The crow attacking my camera is classic!

Nice video Randy, thanks for sharing it. Just based on what little bit I could see in the camera that looks like some beautiful property. I have several trail cameras but have never tried the video mode on them. See this makes me want to try it. Stay on them Turkeys and you have one down soon.

I went this morning and didn't see a single bird :(  I lost my crow call somewhere so I couldn't locate them either.

I staked out some turkey bones and meat just to see what appears on the video.  I'm guessing raccoons, possums, skunks, etc, but I'm hoping to see a fox or coyote.

I went out to watch some team roping at my coyote hunting buddy's house today.  He has a really nice setup!

On the way home I stopped at Wally World in Lenoir City.  They had a crow call!  I bought it, a discount camo t-shirt, and a turkey hunting DVD all for $20.  That was a pretty good haul.

I do wish I could have found my other crow call.  It had a more pure crow sound and was easier to use.

Great stuff Randy. I am with Jeff...:) Waiting for an invite to come hunting in your pasture..:) Just beautiful...  While watching the video, I noticed that the deer kept looking at the camera. Guess they could sense something.. Also it looked like you had the camera in a big bucket of water and it was floating..:) What is up with that?...:)

Thanks and we defiantly want more..:)

I think they see the red light on it when it is taping.  The crow attacking it was just hilarious!!!

I went out yesterday.  Something has been gnawing a bit on the turkey carcass, but I decided to just leave the camera for a few more days.  Business is picking up right now so I'm traveling a lot ore than usual.  It may be Friday before I can pick it up again.  I love going to Jim's Pasture, but it is a 40 minute drive out there.

If I don't have to leave too early tomorrow for NashVegas, I may try and go turkey hunting.  Heck if I don't have to be at a customer site early over there, I may take my hunting stuff and see what I can do on public land over there.  I look like an arsenal anymore.  I got a new (to me) shotgun last week.  It is a Berretta Silver Mallard with three cool chokes that you can swap out.  I have the .223 HR, and I usually put one of the air guns in the car as well in case of starlings, groundhogs, etc.

My blind and turkey decoys I left out at Jim's.  But I have another bag with all of my Predator Calls including my "El Cheap" Electronic Call.  My wife says I'm going through a second middle age crisis.  I simply told her that I prefer love making to hunting and shooting, and I'll gladly give up my morning hunts for morning delight-she told me to go hunting. :D

Great video Randy, I was wondering what the limit on idiots was, here in WV there is not a limit and we just leave them lay where we shot them. LOL

That was a pretty good shot of Jim and I checking out the camera location.  I haven't seen any turkeys there in a few days.  I'm going to have to "run and gun".  The rain made them move I think to higher ground.  Now that all of the trees are blooming and there is plenty of food, they are no longer along the creek bank.

I'm headed out first thing in the morning to hunt some birds.  I'll collect the game camera and see what is on it too.

Thats some good video! That crow was crazy trying to steal the camera. Was alot of turkey's. Good job setting it up in a high traffic area or is his whole farm like that?

Well mostly his farm is open, but along the west side there is a thicket of cedars, oaks, etc that is so dense you can't see but a couple of feet into it.  That was were I figured the deer were hanging out.  He also has a creek at the end of his property.

Here is a map of his property.

1) Green line is boundary of his land
2) Blue dot is one of my blinds (bad location)
3) Red X is my new popup blind right along the creek.
4) The yellow mark is where I've seen the most turkeys!

All along the edge of those woods is a big creek, almost too deep to ford (especially when it is COLD).  Though it is hard to tell all of those woods across the creek are part of a steep ridge almost too steep to climb.  That big brown splotch is what I call a "lagoon" meaning it is where the creek overflows and it is all squishy.

I wish I could see the turkeys from a satellite :D

If I don't see any from the blind in the morning or hear them gooble I'm going to "run and gun" along the creek bank with my crow call and box call.  I can't go too far though as I run out of huntable land.  I don't have permission much further than you can see on the photo, but I can go up or down the creek.  If I had the gonads, I'd cross the creek, but doing that in the morning when I can't see a thing would be a tragedy I fear.  I need to find a place to ford or make a small bridge.

I have always suspected that my friend Jim's place has coyotes. A few days back I fried a turkey and kept his bones, gravy, etc. I took it out to Jim's and placed it along the fence near his house.

Last week I got lots of deer and turkey on the camera. This week I finally got evidence of a coyote.

There are also numerous bandits around!

I love those videos  :)  that one was great.....  Please keep posting them, I look forward to them..

I just have a question.... keep in mind I no nothing about game cams......  at night does  the camera turn on the light when it detects  movement or is it that there's no actual light and it's using night vision ???? Just curious....  thanks Randy

Okay there is a little red light that comes on when it records.  I think that is what the animals are seeing.  The light for the camera part is infrared.  You can't see it at all with the naked eye.  They are just seeing the red light flashing.

When I've used my Nightshot camera I can see the beam from the IR lights.  However, I've been around it hundreds of times in the dark and the only thing I can see is the recording light.
