: Mrod questions
: patton123 April 10, 2010, 08:26:35 AM
Why is it on this forum everybody is satisfied w/ their Mrod, but other forums (yellow) they are sending them out to be tuned ?

I have seen some awesome accurate target pic's here.

Just curious

I have been over there reading the threads about M-rods.
It appears that people over there who own higher end air rifles, that cost 2 and 3 times as much, find little to like in the M-rod.
Some shoot better than others, I am happy with mine so far, and am not thinking about sending it off and waiting 3 months.
I think the M-rods are getting better as they go along, Even Greg says the barrels are better now.
I think Gregs services are great if you have one that doesn't shoot good, or if you really got to have his upgrades. But if it  ain't broke don't fix it.
I chrony'd mine today, With CPH Box .177: 899FPS AV, spread 18fps, deviation 6. from the factory.

I will be making some targets at 30 and 35 yards, and will post the results in a few days.

My Opinion take it as it be....and my observation (as I do look at the yellow, but i do not post). Not only are they stuck up over there, but they are mostly filled with followers..NOT LEADERS, they buy the same gun, and don't talk to you if you don't own it....(cool crowd) (FX,BSA,BEEMAN,RWS) you know all those $1,000 and up guns. and they all try to copy, or prove something by owning the most expensive gun. (a status thing)

I don't like when someone ask a question about something....and then they either give a stuck up answer and try to make you feel like an idiot. or maybe you ask about a certain Gun...then they tell you to forget about the trash gun...buy this $1000 gun!

The the average guy can now afford a GREAT PCP....that beats up on their $1000 guns! period

that's why they hate on the mrod, and everyone on here likes it.

people on this forum..are real people!

And i would not classify myself as a follower by asking question, getting good answers, and making up my own mind to buy the Mrod. even though a lot of you guys have it...I just recognize a good buy, good advice, and a good product!

oh yeah...and i bought the disco first...after doing much research! and help from YOU guys.

keep up the good work, although the yellow is a good forum. it reminds me of HIGHSCHOOL!

sad

My Mrod shot great right from the box, ragged hole groups with the right pellets.  I couldn't ask for more than that  :)

It seems like a lot of the guys on the yellow send their Mrods out to be tuned so that the gun will shoot the pellets that they want it to shoot, namely the JSB pellets, as opposed to the pellets that the rifle likes.  If someone  wants  to spend all that money to make their rifle shoot a ragged hole group with JSB pellets then that's fine with me,,,,  but personally I don't see any  difference between a ragged hole group made by 10 JSB Exacts or the ragged hole group that my Mrod makes with 10 Kodiaks or 10 CPHP's ,, and the squirrels and rabbits that I'm hitting in the head with those pellets don't seem to notice any difference either  :)    My Mrod hates all the JSB domed pellets, but that's fine with me because the rifle absolutely loves Kodiaks and CPHP's  and they work just fine  :)

I'm not knocking anyone for sending their Mrod to Greg Davis or any of the other tuners.  It's your rifle and your money and if you feel the rifle needs to be tweaked to make you happy then more power to ya.  I just never felt the need to send out my Mrod for any work since it already gives me ragged hole groups, great shot strings and great FPS numbers.

I visit many forums and you will find good and bad guys on all, even here. I think you see more posts about problems with the Mrod over there because there are many more people who
post on that Forum. The GTA seems to have a much higher percent of guys who use springers more (Just from the fewer posts I see here in the PCP section). The Mrod is a very good gun,
but the fit and finish and overall quality is certainly not comparable to a top end PCP. So, when you get a Mrod you have a higher chance of some problems. Whether you buy a Daystate
or Mrod if you have a problem you are going to be upset and complain in your posts.

i dont think the mrod should be copared to a gun thats double the price.if the mrod cost 1000 1200 dollars i would maybe have some more complaints but it doesnt and im satisfied that i got what i paid for.
: My take on the Mrod tune
: preez April 11, 2010, 01:24:45 AM
Mrod is a very good rifle out of the box. Mine shot CP's very well from day one. But what I would seek in a good tune and what Greg Davis does is make the rifle even better. He replaces the springs and fine tunes the rifle to shoot hard, consisten and accurate. The reason people want to shoot JSB's out of it is because they are very uniform and they come in 4 different weights!!! Mine shoots 15.9 grain JSB's quite well, but that's after some modification to the inleade. Hates 14.3's and 18 grainers. I have yet to try the Monsters. I would like it to shoot  18's for long distances where I notice the CP's groups open up at 60 yds+ (maybe it's just me?) I would't go nuts and spend hundreds on a tune, since I can do basic stuff by myself and like I said, it's a very good rifle out of a box.

my Stock Mrod, with self adjusting...(NO Chrony) shoots 21.14 grain barracudas okay, with a flier every once and awhile

If it ain't broke don't fix it is my motto. Nothing against anyone whom wants more and has money to blow, wish I did. My Mrod shoots great as a straight out of box rifle. Have killed critters
with it and shot not bad at targets for a person whom isn't a pro or a target shooter by any means. Yse I have a 177 and a 22 cal Mrod and a 22 cal Disco. Will someday add a 25 cal Mrod to the mix. I am happy and pleased with what I have at the present. Crosman is a good company and they rock!!!!!
