Well I was out putting some dinner in the pit and noticed that there were a mess of Starlings in the back of the shop/barn. I told my son to go and get his gun and sit at the picnic table with me. After about 10 - 15 minutes they returned as if we were not there, well David is six and I have kept him primarly punching paper. But tonight I let him give it a go at the yellow beaks and he got his first one! With his Crosman 1077 and a mag of CPHP's, he was so proud cause up till now he doesnt shoot it much! He was faithful to his Daisy Lil Buck, but now he tells me he doesnt trust BB's anymore he is a pellet kinda guy! Now thats funny coming from a six year old!

Congrats to him! Great pictures!

Congrats to your son,,,, fine shooting :)
You should've plucked that bird and popped him into the smoker.... Don't laugh,,,, I'm serious.... they're actually pretty good....

Well I never have tried that one, but I am not against trying it! We are Game bird farmers (Quail Chukar Pheasants Red Jungle Fowl and Black Stars) So I am pretty open minded when it comes to BBQ up some birds! We have a customer that picks up fifty processed quail every other Friday, so we can make pretty quick work of cleaning some birds LOL!

I've smoked them in my smoker and they come out really good, of course you need at least a dozen for a meal :)
I also like to quickly fry up a bunch of starling breasts in some butter and some cajun seasoning.... they come out great.
Some of my friends poke fun at me for eating them but I don't care..... I like em :)

Tell you kid that we at GTA our impressed with his first kill.
P.S. the food looks good, what time is dinner tomorrow?

Nice! That's the youngest hunter I've heard of. He'll probably be a shooter for life.
What about stuffed starling or starling kabobs or starling jerkey????? Mystery meat night for the family?

I know it gets controversial and I am not here to argue that but he has been hunting with me since his early days. We have a ranch in West Texas that we hunt Axis & Whitetail on since he could walk to the stand. He has been taught all about firearms from the begining so know doubt in my mind I have a lil hunter for life. My daughter the same, she is now eleven but she doesnt like me advertising her passion about it LOL she thinks her friends will find her as a tomboy! Here are some pics of David with his shooters! He says after yesterday he will now pass his Daisy Lil Buck to his month and a half old brother Thomas. So we will have another hunter hopefully in a couple years!

Its always good to get the kids involved as much as you can and teach them right from the get go. I always have my 6 yr old son in tow on almost everything I do. I can get my daughters to go here and there but they are both good shooters. Good job dad.

Hey, great going, tell your son he`s a great shot. Why`s that Starling trying to imitate the "Spread Eagle" position?
-
Habit I figure we are Game bird farmers, I like to look at the plumage! Thanks for looking!
-
That's great Kevin! Congrats to your Son on his first hunt, and congrats to you for being such a good Dad !!!!!!
