: Turkey hunt?
: Wade.S April 16, 2010, 11:55:57 AM
Doug.T and myself got up this am and headed out for a turkey hunt to a place that Doug had received permission for us to hunt on. On the way out we saw a flock of about 10 turkeys but they were on private land. Upon arriving to the spot we were going to hunt we saw a single hen. We hiked around the guy's land and did not see any other turkeys. Upon hiking to the top of hill we were able to see 4 turkeys on his neighbors land and about 18 whitetail deer at the top on his land. Doug and I then decide to go up onto public land and look for a turkey. No turkeys found but we did get into a few ground squirrels, we shot 5 of them and 6 birds. On the way back down we saw 4 turkeys on the place we had permission to hunt, once again all hens. A short way down the road we saw 2 toms strutting on the side of the road and a few hens in the field. I stopped at the nearby house and asked permission and was turned away. Dang! Any how here are the photos.

Nice shooting!  The turkeys I hunt know what day I'm not there.  I got a text from the landowner saying he had four gobblers IN HIS BACKYARD!  When I'm there....nada :(

Well at least you were entertained!  :D

Good shooting. You guys hunting turkey with your pellet gun, if so are you going for the head shot or are you going for a body shot.

Jeff, I was hunting turkey with a shotgun. Doug was along for the ride not having a tag so he carried his pellet gun for "anything else" we might see. We took turns with the ar shooting. However I don't think it would be wise to body shoot a turkey with an ar.

The thought crossed our mind.  My 850 is zero'd at 25 yards and when we stopped, the toms were about 20-22 yards and not moving muchl.  An earshot would have been a piece of cake but that would be illegal.

The ground squirrel shooting was fun.  Some of the smaller ones were launching off the back side of brush piles after kissing a 14.3g pellet at 850+ fps.
