: Can anyone tell me about the Remington NPSS?
: TAC-GUNNER April 20, 2010, 01:26:58 AM
I have seen/read reviews but not from "real" owners.

How does it fire?  Is there good accuracy, is it really as quite as they say?

And what about FPS @ .22?

I really want this gun based on what I have seen so far, but it sure would be nice to hear from an actual NPSS owner.

It is the same gun as the Crosman NPSS. Crosman no longer markets the gun under their name. Gene SC has done an exstensive tear down and review of this rifle. Looking at one myself. Numbers if I recall mid to upper 700's depending on the pellet. HTH

Welcome Anthony.

If you use the search function and do a search for " NPSS",  you'll find alot of replys from owners, as Leftcoast mentioned, back when it was a Crosman, and now with it switched to the Remington brand name.

Here's some from Gene to get you started.

I have a Remington NPSS - but it's .177, so I can't help with FPS question. Extremely easy to cock -quiet enough so my neighbors don't mind at all (so they say). Picked up a CBR trigger from CDT which was a vast improvement over the stock trigger. It took mine a while to "settle down" as they say. Didn't like much of anything other than JSB exacts at first. I picked up some tight fitting H&N's of different weights, and after a few hundred of those -as if by magic now it shoots almost everything into tight groups. A friend of mine bought a .22 version, and it's his favorite gun from a stable of seven guns. No chrony though(unless I can talk him into it so I can use it too)

I have the Crosman NPSS in black. It's the .22 version. The cocking effort is small, very easy. It's an accurate rifle, stacking pellets at 10 meters all day as long as I did what I should. I didn't find it to be hold-sensitive and it shoots any pellet that I've tried so far. It's had roughly 100 rounds fired through it so it isn't broken in yet. I can't say anything about the FPS as I have no access to a chrony but the starlings fall without a twitch when hit. My rifle had/has one troublesome problem: if put down on a rest or if the stock is struck on the bottom with very little force, the barrel will fall out of lock. In other words, it will become uncocked. The barrel catch or chisel spring is either broken or too weak to hold the barrel closed. I sent the gun back to Crosman today hoping they'll fix it and return this one to me. I sure don't want a replacement as this gun is a dream shooter. Other than the barrel lock-up failure, this is an excellent rifle.

Clip, I hope Crosman doesn't send you a replacement NPSS.  On my NPSS, I discovered it came without breach spacers so I tore it down and installed 5/16" brass washers (from Lowe's) where the plastic spacers should have been.  Then I tightened down the barrel pivot pin/screw and it kept the barrel from drooping if I set it down harder than I should.  The brass washers don't compress like the plastic ones do and shots from my NPSS is more consistent because of it.  At 65 yards, I was grouping 1-1/2" with CPHPs, before the gas ram failed.  I talked to someone there who had the authority to send me a replacement gas ram and I changed it out myself.  My contact there even honored the warranty, even though I took the rifle apart and tuned it.  It's now back to shooting and hitting with authority.  If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that my NPSS is shooting .22 cal., 14.3 grain pellets at about 730 fps.  One day soon, I'll put it through the chrony.

I'm hoping I get the same gun back. I put a note in with it telling the Crosman people what was wrong and that I DID NOT want a replacement rifle. I just wanted the chisel to be fixed and asking that the same gun be returned to me. I hope they read and honor it.....stay tuned!

I hope so too.
