In the Marauder depinger I am a bit confused. The rubber hose insert seems simple and inexpensive. The Greg Davis machined one with double O-rings and delrin seems like a much nicer way to go. Custom made to fit, will it have fewer problems and/or work better in the long run? Anyone with experience on these yet for a comparison?

I think 2 inches of rubber hose works better than 2 O-rings on a piece of delrin.
It has more surface area touching the inside of the tube.
It may not be HI-tech but I think cheaper is better in this case.
Oops I don't have experience with both, but I know how well the rubber hose works.

I think functionality is better than looks, Plus no one is gonna see it anyways. I just did this modification over the weekend (1 1/4vinyl hose)
Marauder forums is where I found the guys doing the comparisons of both depinger options, and more than one said the hose worked better.

That plus the youtube videos convinced me to try it, It honestly is so cheap and easy to do it is worth trying.(if you don't like it you could probably take it back out with a little work ;) ) It looks fine in there (its clear) and the hose is very strong,stays in place, and is made to last years.

PRESSURE WAVE? Thats a good one.
It is actually dampening/deadening the ring of the air tube caused by the hammer strike.

Yes it IS a "good one" sound waves ARE pressure waves. Go figure.
A de-pinger is just too easy to make, suff around and look at pictures, not much to it at all, I do like the type with a small hole in it, held in place with o-rings (just be sure to have a way to remove it. Personally I just use a regulator in the Marauder to get rid of all ping.

I suppose you could loosely compare a sound wave to a pressure wave.
But Keep in mind, by definition, pressure waves are caused by earth quakes and are formed from alternating compressions and rarefactions.
I can think of better ways to describe a tube ringing after you hit it. The word bell comes to mind for some reason.

I bought one of Greg Davis' depingers from Precision Airguns. The thing was a *_*_*_*_*_* to fit...very tight. So tight, in fact, I ended up tearing one of the two o rings. Personally, if I did it again, I'd go the "home made" route.

Rick to back up spysir sound is a pressure wave there is no "loose interpretation" it's a pressure wave! thats all. you can go to http://www.google.com and type in "sound wave" and go to wiki and you'll get this along with a few pages on sound

Thanks for your help, but If the ping wasn't sound waves coming from the tube ringing, we wouldn't hear it.
Why do people want to make the ping into a high tech complicated sophisticated issue, and call it something it isn't?
I got my definition of pressure wave from Wikipedia.

I have a Mrod that pings, so I went out to test your theory this afternoon. If I understand what you are saying, then the pressure tube is like a bell, and the ping is the result of the blow the hammer delivers to the valve, which would be similar to striking a bell with a mallet. Is that accurate? And that the de-pinger merely dampens the vibration of the tube like touching a vibrating guitar string with your fingertip, or grabbing the still-vibrating bell with your hand.
So I took the Mrod out and shot a clip. Pinged every shot. Took a roll of strip-caulk, and applied it on the accessible parts of the pressure tube. Still pinged. Added more caulk at different locations on the tube, shot more. Still pinged. Ended up with about a pound of stip caulk on the outside of the tube, from breech to muzzle, covering maybe 70% of the outer tube surface. Not only did it still ping, but there was no discernible difference in the ping sound between the heavily dampened tube and the bare tube, after I took all the caulk off.
If the ping I have results from the tube vibrating like a bell, why didn't the heavy, viscous caulk change it, even a little?

wow, think you misread someone. we are talking about a ping that is made INSIDE your air tube. only way to dampen that ping is obstruct the sound wave INSIDE your tube, by way of a depinger.
you actually put caulk on your Mrod? as hard as I try to keep mine clean! please just send me your gun right now :o
