I have read so many good things about the M-34 here on the GTA, am beginning to think I NEED one. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif) To be completely honest, I have had the fever for several weeks now and it is getting worse. And as all of you know, there is only one way to cure the fever. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)
Seems like most of the ones I read about here are tuned though. Or the recommendation is to buy a 34 and get a good tune. I am curious how many members who own one are happy with it "out of the box" and how many think a tune is a "must do".
I like the looks and durability of the 34 Panther but have decided to go with the standard model in .22 cal. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I just like the looks and feel of a wood stock and metal sights. I just need to decide whether to buy a stock 34 or the ProGuide2 tuned rifle from Vortek.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

If you go for stock you will want to tear it down and properly lube it. They are pretty dry inside. I never fired mine out of they box. I de-burred, installed polished hardened washers and JM spring,tar & moly and it is great.

I have a .22 34 Panther that I bought new and is still bone stock to this day and it is one of my favorite small game rifles. I haven't done anything a all to it since I've owned it. It cocks nice and smooth, has a nice firing cycle, has a really nice trigger, has plenty of power, shoots nice and consistent and is deadly accurate. I love my Panther. I'm certainly not going to say that my Panther wouldn't be even better with a tune, it no doubt would be, but it shoots so nice I really don't feel the need to mess with it, at least not yet. :)

I absolutely love the D34 in 177 i got from Mike Mellick with the JM kit! I would recommend you get it tuned. It is good out of the box but a tune would change it into a totally different gun.

I also got a 34 in wood and .177 and is my go to rifle. is simple and once broken in, very smooth. I use mine for long distance shots (100 yds.) it loves cphp pellets and it puts them in a 2 inch group at that distance. at 30 yards the group is little bigger than a dime. mine settled with those at 845 fps average. It will also stack cp heavies and those fly out at 710 fps. It is a great gun out of the box. the trigger is a good "field" trigger. I have been eyeing a .22 for a while as i've also shot those and at ranges of up to 40 yards are deadly accurate. I would leave the .22 unscoped and enjoy it for the purity of its design. You cant go wrong with a 34.

Gary, I went with the wood stock on my.22 Diana34 / iron sights I just prefer traditional wood. It is stock standard and one of the only untuned I have , I know it would be alot smoother tuned and I may do lube deburr later on just for fun:) it shoots great and is more accurate than me so I have not bothered to touch anything. Can do easy 1/2" at 25 plus yds and therefor perfect for me to carry around and hit what I aim at:) I have the utg n-460 base mount with low space age 4bolt mounts and works perfect:) IMO I think everyone should have Diana 34:) Tony

I'd go with the Vortek tuned gun. I have a .177 34 with wood stock, did the Vortek tune myself, and I'd say it's well worth what you pay for it. Vortek's price is very reasonable for a new rifle plus kit, and the Vortek kit lives up to it's hype.
If you do decide to buy a stock rifle, bear in mind that they ship almost bone dry. I've owned several Diana's, with the exception of one that was tuned when I got it, they were all dry. One of them had been shot enough that the piston had galled the compression tube pretty badly, and the innards were all full of metal dust. Makes me wonder what the inside of rifles like Jeff's looks like, sorry Jeff. Later.

Get a 34,...whatever model style you prefer,....and shoot it pure stock for a while. Yes they come pretty 'dry' from the factory, but once broken in they are relatively smooth to begin with. You will fall in love with the Diana 34 in no time at all,....then when you tune it or have it tuned, you will be in rapture with these little shooters. One of the few rifles that comes close to HW quality if you ask me. Very well built and very well designned. Best of luck!! tjk

A Model 34 wood stocked .22cal shot bone stocked for about 3000 pellets with no issues whatsoever, a Model 34N .177cal used with 2000 pellets and no issues and a Model 34P .22cal used with about 2500 pellets and no issues also. I sold the wood stocked Model 34 and to this day I regret selling it. IMHO these Model 34's are keepers for life. None have been tuned either by me or professionally. I do plan on getting a PG 2 Vortek kit for my Model 34N in the future. you can get a b25 for alot cheaper and its basicly the same gun. alittle rougher but tuned it is just as good as a 34

Congradulations Gary. You will not regret purchasing the Diana 34 one bit. Please keep the GTA community informed on how things progress with your new shooter. tjk

I feel like drug pusher who just gave you a freebie... you'll be back for more...lol. As far as the B25 being the same... I love my chinese guns but there is no comaprison. even tuned it will resemble a stock but broken in 34. a tuned 34 is a transformed rifle. the stock in the 25 is different as well as the feel on the trigger. the blueing is not on par with any of the rws rifles. Its a great rifle, don't get me wrong... but i'll swing the extra 70/80 bucks and get a 34 every time. The b26 is more of a faithful copy to the R9 than the b25 to the RWS34... imho.

I agree the B25 is ok but the 34 is the real deal you can feel the quality difference as soon as you put it in your hand, I've had a B25 for awhile and thiers no comparison but the 25 is a good gun nun the less but it aint an RWS!

I was in the same boat several months ago. I had a new 34 (wood stock, "classic" model) and wasn't sure what to believe concerning tune kits. After shooting it in stock form I decided to go with the PG2 and I haven't had any regrets. Great shot cycle, no twang or buzz. Really makes the gun shine.
Now, my gun came cocked and probably had been for some time. I'm not sure if that helped contribute to the twanginess and the torque when it was fired but the PG2 has made those things a distant memory. Well worth the money.
