If it was me....I would send it back to Gamo (Call them first) since the air rifle should still  be under guarantee.  Maybe you'll have to pay for the shipping....   I'll continue shipping it back to them if anything else goes wrong, until the warranty runs out.....then I'll buy aftermarket parts and start repairing them.

Remember, if you've installed something else (GRT III, seals etc.) or have signs that the air rifle have been opened up.....Gamo might not honor their warranty.

Others might have a different opinion on this.

Were you shooting the PBA ammo that came with the gun?  If you were, you probably damaged the spring after running all 50 PBA pellets through it before you switched over to lead.  Shooting the PBA ammo is like dry-firing your gun - they are too light and do not form a tight seal with the barrel's rifling.  If I were you, I'd upgrade it to a gas ram (preferably a Theoben one from http://www.airgunwerks.com).

Just put the stock trigger back on the rifle before you send it back, if that's the way you want to go.

Archer no he hasnt other then a few when he forst got it its had no super lights through it and only a few heavies.... its been fed a nice steady diet of CPHP's and an assortment of a few other good pellets looking for what it likes best..... rws/beeman etc

Ah.  Going too heavy is also bad for the spring.  What caliber Whisper?

archer it had only 5 of the silly pba & maybe 10 0r 20 10.5 cphp in it before I knew they were bad for it ,i'm a powder burner for sure so I was after penatration & knock down on treerat's, I like clean kill's & I figured go heavy what did I know(better now, well not by much),but I really don't think it was the cause, not sure but I hope not? it's a .177 cal.& most of the shot's where with 7.5 to 7.9 range(really crosman's 8.0 grs.on my scale's)& 15 r.w.s. 8.3 ,so I stayed in the middle mostly.

If it were me Jay i would not waste my time with gamo and i would do the tune myself. i know it seems kind of scary at first but trust me if you can turn a wrench or hit a nail with a hammer then you will most likely have no problem figuring out the internals of the whisper just be careful with a spring commpressor. just think of it this way you order JM kit 30 dollars and have a real nice shooter or pay shipping at 20 dollars and most likely all you have is a untuned gamo ready to blow again or risk shipping damage and bent barrel.

Shady I think thats along the lines of what he is deciding.... I have the spring compressor he can use..

Something to keep in mind. Gamo frequently exchanges gun and there could be a good chance that you might get the later version of the Whisper. If so, you would not get the quality of the older version. Just something to think about. I would suggest that you tune it and keep what you have.

that was one of my worries too that you would send back the older nicer metal trigger and get the newer even crappier plastic :) think I said something like thatwhen we was discussing it :)

hell poppa maybe we will pull that gun apart and measure the seal and then just pick up the spring and seal from JM and then go halves on apurchase of the lubes (think he does a great deal on all 3 lubes for about21 bucks...) you will come out ahead and I will come out with some of the good stuff too :)

Better yet since your asking opinions.... you should just give it to me....

Jay,
Spring in my Whisper rolled craps around 1500 rounds also.  Follow Bobs advice on the parts from JM and you will be surprisingly pleased with a great shooter.  He is the Grand Ole Man of the tuners her on the forum and one of the greatest gentlemem I have had the pleasure of doing business with.  He cares about the people here and the sport.  His word is gold in my opinion and I have purchased 5 of his GRT-III's for myself and a few for others and installed them.  You will change that pellet gun into an Air Rifle with the GRT-III and a tune.  The fun is yet to come and it's interesting to do as well.  Best of luck with the repairs and let us know how she turns out.
Tim

THANK's TIM I'm going to pull it apart in a day ortwo & mic seal to see if it's a apex for me or the tesla,I wish j.m had tesla seal in both size(sound's to be aslightly better seal)& yes I believe BOB is a fine man & true to his word,  I sent the man cash with out even giveing it a second thought,I hope he does'nt even claim it on tax's, but he most likely will , I wish I would of stuck a few extra buck's in to get him a couple of beer's just for his good answer to my plight on gun & for this fine forum they run!!! hey tim one more guestion did you use any shim's on your spring from j.m, not really worried about power or anything just wondering,I've heard of washer's ?
: Re: broke my whisper what to do?
: Tim40189 May 04, 2010, 02:55:29 PM
Jay,
I machined a custom spring guide out of Delrin and used a SS washer as a bearing surface for the rear of the spring and machined a brass top hat with a spacer for the piston end of the spring.  Made my measurements and then got advice from Gene on materials to consider for the parts. These are one of the advantages of being a machinist and working in a large production facility with access to the necessary equipment.  It is also necessary to have the gun and components in hand to make these measurments, this is one of the things Bob, Gene, and Ed have done over the years as pro tuners.  They can make great shooters out of these air rifles with the work they do.  Good luck with the tune and repair job.  Let us know how she comes out in the end.  Anything else dope in a line and I'll try to help if I can.
