: PCP question for The Shop......
: DanoInTx April 28, 2007, 02:16:55 PM
....have a question one of you guys may be able to answer.  I've noticed on my gas guns, CO2, PCP....that they share one thing in common be it my QB78 or Crosman, or whatever, you have a poppet knock open valve, and that valve is usually openned by a hit from a hammer that is moving forward.  Now my question is...If the hammer struck the KO valve while travelling aft would it have some effect on accuracy?  This is assuming the hammer is still travelling completely paralell with the barrel.  Gas guns contrary to popular believe do have "some" recoil, some being the equal and opposite reaction of gas and lead escaping from the muzzle, and the bounce of the hammer on the KO valve.  Anyone see any reason why I can't (in my theorectical PCP) design it to where the hammer is travelling aft?

Dan ya know what? I keep on reading more and more about the QB78 and I think there is gonna be one in my future. LOL with an unlimited supply of Co2 from work it really just makes sense. But here is the bad thing After doing about a total of hmm 5-6 hours readingon these Qbxx guns I still havent a clue as to how they work. I can read about some things and understand all the little ins and outs but other things.... I need the thing in front of me torn apart so I can actually see what does what. Hands on is the only way I am gonna be able to answer your question hehe.

Well unfortunately my very last QB78 should be leaving me on Tuesday:(  I have a 2240 here as well as some other stuff to show you when you make it down here though:)  Oh yea, I think I have some drawings of some stuff I've been festering up in my head lately that could explain a little too.

I was thinking QB78 in my future also, there's just something about them oh that's right, I'm addicted. Ed

If you like that 2240 you will really like a QB78.  Get it in .22, I feel that is the premier caliber for CO2 guns.....better utilization of expanding liquid/gas because of the larger bore and skirt area.

I'm not sure if it effects accuracy or not, but my Talon SS (or ANY Airforce gun) Cocks forward and the hammer slaps the valve whilst traveling rearward. It provide a slight amount of recoil, but not much. Especially with the talon have such a straight reciever design.

Yuppems, I have been looking alot at the design of the AF guns....those have a cool flow-thru valve stem/transfer port deal too for a completely inline valve.....which is why their bottles stick straight out the back.  It's all about giving the air as straight of a path as possible, which is exactly what I am after with a rearward firing hammer and forward firing KO valve, except the design I'm looking at has no flow-thru, just a simple angled port.  The AF guns are a very simple and efficient design, I still don't care for the ergonomics and the high scope though:(  Do you have a small diameter CO2 bottle on yours, and does it help get the cheek down a little?  Would be cool if they would make an angle necked bottle:)

why can't a 1 or 2-piece angle connector be made?

I have a skinney 9oz CO2 bottle on mine. It helps ALLOT compared to a 16 ouncer. The air tank is pretty close to the size of a 16 OZ tank, and it's still a bit on the big side for my tastes.

On a standard PCP version of that gun the valve is part of the air tank, in the CO2 version the valve is in the adapter...the gun in both cases is the same.  So on the PCP version there is nowhere to put an angle adapter, but on the CO2 there might be, maybe something from Cooper-T or MAC-1?  This is the big beef I've always had with the AF guns, I think the design from every standpoint EXCEPT ergonomics is beautiful...these are really well engineered guns, I just don't like the bottle as the shoulder stock and having it stick straight out the back making what is effectively a very high comb.  Cool guns though, if someone conquers the bottle in the face issue I'd buy two...ok, at least one:)
