I don't know what the xl 1500 is, but try shooting heavier pellets.
-
sorry about that it is a benjamine trail xl1500 177
-
Yea, I'd try H&N Baracuda 10.65 grain or CP Heavy 10.5 grain pellets. That's a big powerplant in that airgun for such lightweight pellets.
Maybe even try Eun Jin 16.1 grain pellets too.
-
It's supposed to shoot 1500 fps, but it looks like it's coming up way short, even with the 6.9 grain pellets. Why do the airgun manufacturers do that? They jack up the numbers to entice people to buy their guns, but when the people get their guns through the chronograph, it's shooting nowhere near the speed it at which is was rated. The bow manufacturers do the same thing and it drives me up the wall.

Those are some pretty decent numbers you got going there. And those muzzle energies look like they're for a .22, not a .177 yowza! (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif) Definitely need to grab some heavy pellets. I'm guessing this was a pretty loud chrony session :o
If you want to make stuff look all nice and purty you can us the table tool in the rich text editor. But honestly, most of the time I don't think it's worth all the work it takes to make it look nice:Pellet | Gamo Pointed

No were near 1500. Ya have to shoot cotton balls. lol
Ray

Nah, can't shoot cotton balls either; it'll be like trying to throw a potato chip.

i don't quess there are any springers or gas rams that shoot the advertised velocitys. i know my benjamine trail xl 1100 dosent' shoot 1100 fps either. we all buy these rifles because of advertisesd fps then we use heavy pellets to slow them down but it would still be nice to get what they advertise .
-
well i went to the local wally world today and bought a pack of gamo pba raptor pellets , thought i would shoot them through the chrony to see what they would do 1492 1510 1497 thats all i am going to shoot through my rifle !!!! almost like dry firing it as far as i am concerned these pellets are a piece of crap will not be anymore through my rifle . so i quess i have 47 left . they are to light to be used as fishing weights the box my rifle came with says 1500 fps with alloy pellets well i quess they are right but it seems kinda like cheating. some one out there tell me what good they are for. thanks david

hmmm... maybe you could give 47 people a "Golden Pellet Award" (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)

Impressive numbers, The xl1500 is now on my short list. Have you had a chance to check the accuracy? What pellets do you intend to try next? It's hard to go wrong with some JSB or RWS pellets. All my air guns like said pellets. I'd like to have another break barrel gun with big power. I've had a few Crosman break barrels, which I gave away to family members. That was before I knew about tune jobs and pellet selection. They did not break down even with very heavy use, but they were not accurate enough for me. However, now I would send them off to Gene for tuning.

Rocker, the gas ram can handle shooting alloy pellets. It's the coil spring that is susceptible to damage with too light and too heavy a pellet. The Trail XL's gas ram doesn't require a spring compressor to remove, so that tells me there's not a whole lot of preload on the gas ram. When the trigger is pulled and the piston has moved to the end of the shot cycle, it's not like the gas ram will want to extend that much further into the compression chamber causing damage like a spring with a lot of preload would. I'd hazard to say that it's probably safe to shoot the alloy pellets from the XL, but don't expect any semblance of accuracy from the PBAs.

To give credit where credit may be due - I think Crosman comes close - certainly closer to advertised speed than Gamo !!!
Crosman says the Trail XL 1100 will do 1100fps with alloy pellets.
My XL did 1071fps with a Craptor. If that speed is then compensated for alititude, that's just about 1100fps. But accuracy is a guessing game. And, there's more noise because the Craptors are just about at the speed of sound, so the pellet adds it's "whip-crack" to the sound.
