: ? about my barrel
: Splash April 30, 2007, 05:25:24 AM
I recently pulled the front site off of my S1K and noticed that the rifleing stops about a 1/2" from the muzzel. Accuracy is ok now, is this normal or would it be better to cut back and recrown, or does this fall under if it aint broke dont fix it.

Hi Ed,

I have seen this on target barrels, it is used to protect the lands and groves, call it a deep crown or offset.

If it don't bother the accuracy, don't worry !

Same way on most gamo barrels. I was wondering the same thing a few months back. Its normal,  go back to relaxing  :)

Some of the older BSA guns had a recessed crown...looking at the end of the barrel, looked like a .35cal. airgun. Was deeply  recessed (like 1 1/4" deep) .

So..don't mess with what's working.

That is what is meant by a recessed crown.

The only problem with it is that its ugly it just dont look right you may need to put some shiny bling bling on there.
