Anybody have this combo? I'm also interested in JM's tune kit, which I think is supposed to boost velocity a little. My TX is currently shooting CP's at 930'ish and Baracuda's in the low 8's. Since I mainly use it with Baracuda's or JSB Heavy's for hunting, I wouldn't mind it being a little hotter. Most importantly, the spring twang needs to go.
I've seen a few threads about this on the Yellow, but they all seem to be a few years old. I'd love to get some current info with before and after numbers.
Thanks.

Yup, I put one in my TX, and for exactly the same reason, the twang just had to go! The Vortek kit eliminated that nicely, this thing now shoots like a TX should shoot. This is the before and after chrony sheet I did:

As you can see, I lost a little power, depending on pellet, but the consistency improved a bit. I haven't retested, mostly because I haven't been shooting it. Turns out I'm not in love with the TX, nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't float my boat. Any questions, let me know.

Awesome - thanks Dave! Great info there. Did you use just the lube that came with the kit, or did you happen to use any tar on the spring?
It looks like the heavies took a bit of an FPE hit where the others were negligible. Mine shoots just slightly hotter (about 20 FPS) on the factory spring. How new was your gun when you put in the kit?
Again, thanks.

Nope, no tar, just the lube in the kit, and a little moly behind the piston seal and on the rings. I'm not sure how old this rifle is, I bought it second hand. The previous owner claimed he hadn't had it very long, and I believe him, other than a couple of dings in the finish from a brain fart he told me about, it's in like new condition. I don't think it's broke in yet :-). If it helps, the ser. # is 092904. 20 fps is nothing, a different batch of pellets or a low pressure system can cause that much difference :-). All in all, I'd say the Vortek kit is a good deal, but check back with me in a year and see if I still think so, longevity is still a question mark. Later.

...check back with me in a year...
Yeah, like I could wait that long. :)
Thanks for the serial. Mine is 084716 and I bought it retail just over a year ago, so yours is relatively new, like you suspected.
Thanks again, Dave.
