: Day and night hunt's (PIC'S)
: shadow June 02, 2010, 08:17:02 AM
Well let me see if I can recall the hunt's been waiting for Sputnik to get up and running to post pic's. The first hunt was a mission to drop my first G-hog for the year and so I was set up in my hide that faces the open grassy fields by 7:00am. About a hour had passed when I spotted a head emerge out of one of the den holes at 30yrd's and I was pumped. As usual the shooter was already in position poking out of the hide and I was settling in behind the glass to getter view of the G-hog. He slowly made his way out of the den hole and settled himself on the mound of dirt next to it but with his backside to me. :0 I wanted him further from his den hole and with a clean head shot so I just waited for him to get comfortable and move further out to graze. All of the sudden he popped up on his haunch's then dove back into his hole?. He hadn't seen me but something must have spooked him so I raised up from the glass and began to scan the field, your kidding me. Out of the high grass appeared to long ear's about 15yrds from the G-hog's den the G-hog must have seen some movement in the high grass and didn't wait around to see what was up. Mr. bunny was headed right for the den and and then stopped right on the mound that the G-hog was on, your going down buddy. The bunny had spooked my G-hog so I settled back in behind the glass and rested the cross hairs on the sweetspot. The Rabbit just dropped right there as the Predator nailed him. He did several quick kick's and expired but I didn't bother to retrieve him just silently reloaded in hopes that when thing's settled down the G-hog would appear again. After another three hours of nothing I figured that the G-hog sensed death above and decided to hold tight in his den so I climbed out of the hide and counted of some yard's to retrieve the Rabbit. The Rabbit was dropped at just under 26yrd's and guessing that the G-hog was in for the morning I packed it up and would be back in the evening to maybe snag him and then go right into the wood's for a night hunt. I was back on location around 6:00pm and back into the hide but I had noticed that the twig's that I had placed over his den hole's had been disturbed which meant that I should have held out longer in the morning. :0 It was going on 8:30pm so I decided to head deeper into the wood's to my other hide and get set up for the night patrol hunt. The game trail lamps were set and on by 9:30pm and the last bit of light faded from the sky and I was hoping for some action since the night hunt's have slowed despite the great weather. A long five hours had passed without any action :0 but I hung in there hoping that the Hunting God's would smile down and chased the thought with some Java. 4:30am and I'm silently tidying up my gear when I see that unmistakable white color of a Country Rat appearing under the lamp. Nothing like a harvest appearing to charge up the senses and so I rested in behind the glass and watched as he slowly made his way down the game trail and just past the first tree mounted lamp. He then stopped and turned to give me a nice side profile view and I didn't hesitate and sent the Predator away. The Predator's impact echoed back to me then the Country Rat dropped right to his side. There wasn't no death roll as I watched him through the glass just the good sign of his tail curling up as he expired. I reloaded as always and made my way out of the hide and on down the trail to further inspect the Country Rat, shooter at the ready. I arrived and gave him a poke but he was no doubt down for the count. I checked out the entry wound then gloved up and turned him over to inspect the other side of his head, another complete pass through. I checked him over from snout to tail for any sign's of sickness etc. and all looked good so I snagged him up by that rat tail and headed back to the hide to gather up the gear and get home to dress him out. He was dropped at 20yrds with the Predator pellet and the trusty ol Extreme 1250.22. The sun was just getting up so I grabbed some pic's for the hunt brothers and hauled the gear out and to the rig and back to the ranch to get him dressed packed and in the icebox. These hunt's were from earlier in the week just waiting on the pic fix now were getting thunder and rain which is wanting to hang here the rest of the week :0 and I still need to get that G-hog. Ed

Mark I've de tuned it to make for a smoother Magnum and she spit's 16g Predators at 815fps. It's still plenty of power to let the Predator do it's job nicely. :) Ed
